I can never remember the difference between 2ch, 2chan, and 2channel. Why all the confusing naming?

2ch = textboard
2chan = imageboard
2channel = 2ch

2ch has tons of traffic and is infested by normalfags ie reddit of the east.
futaba is an imageboard and 4chan is modeled after it.

It's further complicated by the fact that only English speakers call Futaba "2chan". In Japan, 2ch, 2chan, 2channel, etc., all unambiguously
refer to 2ch the text board, and "Futaba" refers to Futaba the imageboard. It's only complicated for English speakers because some English speakers call Futaba "2chan" because of the URL. It would be like if people started calling 4chan "boards" because it's in the URL or something.

What about the cooperation Futaba? Wouldn't they have to include the channel part in some way to differentiate?

You mean 4chan, anonymous image-sharing site that isn't based on the Japanese Futaba channel, itself not an offshoot of the enormously popular Japanese 2chan site?

What do you mean why? Futaba is short for Futaba Channel which means two leaf channel in English, or just 2chan in their url. 2ch has nothing to do with leaves, but it also happens to have the name 2 channel.
