Don't worry, Miko, you'll be out in a couple hours.

For awhile I thought Byakuren was superior and that Miko was a rather uninteresting Touhou. And that Byakuren would wipe the floor with her in a fight. Byakuren also has a much larger chest.

But Miko has been slowly winning me over. Her tenacity in all of this and winning others over too is admirable. I also think she is much better for humanity and has good ideals. I think she could take on Byakuren too.
She's also got a cool cape and looks rather fabulous in it.

Personally I still like Byakuren and her concept better. She's an "evil" wizard that believes herself to be a saint. It appeals to me since I enjoy characters with a religious flare to them, especially when they are the ass kicking monk variety. I also like that her powers come from an evil place not fitting of her status as a monk. I like that everything she did she did out of a place of fear. She was afraid of dying so she used demonic magic to preserve herself. She was afraid of losing her powers so she became an ally to the youkai. It makes her seem more human, which I guess makes sense since she is a human.

I like that her magic focuses on helping her punch people in the face rather than shoot lasers or some other flashy effect. Even with her demon powered punch magic, she's still a monk before she's an "evil" wizard. She does monk things like chanting and meditating all day. She doesn't go out and pick fights just because she doesn't like someone. If she punches someone in the face it's because she is trying to defend the youkai in her care and their way of life.

And speaking of youkai, people give her shit for being a human and still protecting them. Though she initially only protected them to protect herself, she came to actually want to defend the youkai from a place of love. The youkai are strong but they are not strong enough and she saw that. She wanted to make sure that they continued to exist, not unlike how we view endangered animals. Just because a tiger can kill you in a one on one fight doesn't mean that they should all be killed so they can't hurt anyone anymore.

All that said, I don't actually know much about Miko. I doubt she could top Byakuren in my mind though. Also Byakuren reminds me of Virgo Shaka from Saint Seiya and that guy made Buddhism look fucking badass.

She use Makai power to preserve her age and magic power out of fear of dying and to in order to preserve her magic power she has to protect youkai. Her intention wasn't genuine at first and she may willing to sacrifice human for that. She wasn't even thinking about youkai or human, only herself. She was basically evil.

But that gradually changed as she seen both's sufferings and now she want both to coexist.

I like miko (or specifically, the idea of her) but she's held back by a lack of material. However, since she's basically one of the few touhous that are really 'noble', I fill the blanks as a projection for aristocratic/elite archetypes (there's kaguya too of course, and i like her in her own way, but she strikes me as a bit to hedonistic for that sort of mindset).
