I've heard it's hard to get disability for depression/social anxiety/asperger's if you have money in the bank alrready, that they require you to be destitute.

I hve $5k in a Roth IRA, and I'm thinking about getting disability after being out of work for two years, end even for the last five years work has been sporadic, mostly living the NEET lifestyle.

I had a 5150 suicde two years ago, and have only worked one job (for a month) since then. Since the 5150 I'm being treated for depression, and now I'm seeing a therapist.

My parents don't know yet, but I've been cashing out my Roth IRA a little at a time and buying the usual hikki gear; Warhammer vidya etc.

Can I get on disability with money in the bank, or is there a way around it or...?

What about welfare?

Because you have to be destitute to apply

Otherwise rich people could just lawyer their way through the system.

/jp/ today I fixed a girl's bike's flat tire and tightened the chain for her. I think it made her really happy, or at least it seemed that way.

Would it be weird to go for a ride with her soon? Do you think people might think we're a couple despite the fact that she's half my age? I just want to do fun things.

Don't have anything to answer the question, but I had a similar, although smaller, experience with a cute loli a year ago.

The girl had to bring her bike in the apartment building but there was not much room and the doors quite heavy. So, I opened the doors and picked up the bike and brought it in. She was really happy and her lovely and sincere smile made my heart melt. I love helping little girls.

in a non pedo way little children are nice to help...outside of that it's just a hassle. Probably because they don't say alot and are very shy. Was at some asian market store thing when a asian walked in with 2 girls wearing the same clothes, ran to the same aisle I was in and tried reaching some sort of like a roll or something it was bread but have no idea what it was.

I grabbed it for them, and they just stood there looking down..then slowly took it, ran to their parents and their parents started telling me thank you 100times

then I bought some cheap noodles and left

It depends a lot on where you live, but I think generally they're not as strict when it comes to disabilities. It's mainly when it comes to unemployment benefits that they refuse to hand out anything unless you're scrapped for every penny. The difference is that unemployment benefits are for people who temporarily need some help to get by until they find a new job, while disability is for people who genuinely won't be able to get an income at all, possibly for life. For the former, having back up money means you won't need help right away, but for the latter, the situation is too permanent for a couple of bucks in the bank to make a difference.

I have a pretty good understanding of how getting disability works in the US, let me tell you a story. The story of how I got my disability for severe crippling anxiety.

The first step is to apply. Sounds easy enough, right? The paperwork is stacks of questions. You will have to see a doctor, which the first time is going to be a cursory examination that will most likely not work in your favor. You're going to ask your doctor to vouch for you, and he's going to refuse. You're going to ask your therapist to vouch for you, and they're also going to refuse. Nobody wants to vouch for you. It's not going to happen. What you're going to have to do is apply once, and then wait it out. You'll get your little cursory examination and a few months later you'll get a denial letter. This is normal, and in fact customary. At this point, you'll appeal the decision. What's going to happen is they're going to take the information they already have and deny you again. This takes months as well. They'll at the point of the second denial offer you a hearing. You should request one, and seek a lawyer immediately. Your lawyer (if you can find one who is willing to take your case) is probably going to send you to a hand-picked psychiatrist, for which you will need to pay up front. The hand-picked psychiatrist will then listen to your complaints, and give a thorough examination. His job is in the service of your lawyer, to find something in particular that constitutes a disability. This guy is a well-respected psychiatrist, most always an old white guy. He's going to get your shit together for you. He's going to be the man that gives you your recommendation. You're still not out of the woods yet, though. Afterwards, you have to go to the hearing. If you experience bad anxiety you might need to bring your benzos with you, because it is not a fun time. You're going to sit at the bottom (literally you will be in a physically lower position) of a round table with your lawyer and

a legal transcriptionist. The judge will be at the head and physically raised from you, and on the side is a vocational expert. This guy is the most important person in the hearing. The judge is going to ask you questions. You are going to be 100% truthful with him, because what you're saying doesn't hold a lot of weight in the investigation, he's just trying to test you. You are always going to call him "your honor". Your lawyer is always referred to as "Mr./Ms./Mrs. X". Your lawyer is going to use the examination from your psychiatrist and cite legal precedents to make your case look as good as possible. He's going to exaggerate everything, because he has to. That's his job and he's really good at it. The vocational expert is going to answer questions from the judge, the judge may occasionally ask for rebuttals from you and your lawyer. He might ask what you think in response to the vocational expert. Let your lawyer talk unless you are asked a question. Do not say anything of your own volition. The judge is going to thank you for coming, and inform you that the hearing is over. You are going to thank him in return and your lawyer is going to walk out with you and say absolutely nothing either way about what he thinks the outcome will be. You're going to go home and wait. When you get a decision, you're going to get one of three things. "Fully Favorable" which means you'll get back pay for the entire time you've been applying (by this time it'll be a couple of years), "Partially Favorable" which means you'll be getting monthly payments but less or no back pay, or "Unfavorable" which means you don't get shit and probably won't ever. Usually you'll get a recommendation from the judge to be re-evaluated every few years to determine the state of your condition. If you get your disability, then congratulations. You are unlikely to have to worry about working for the rest of your life.

Is significant money in a bank a disqualification?

If you don't get it, immediately seek a "plan B" because you're not going to get it easily after being denied directly by a judge. I hope this is helpful.

The moral of the story is the entire process is pure bullshit and generally the point of the system of disability determination is to make you jump through a lot of hoops, rather than legitimately evaluate your condition. (Though they will do this, and if there isn't anything to go on, you're not getting it.) They want you to give up. Good luck, and godspeed, just remember being on SSI or SSDI is a life sentence to poverty. Do not do this just because you think it's an easy way out, because it isn't. Being poor sucks and you should realize your potential if you have it.

>> No.11697053

>>11697041
It is. You should not have any valuable assets or large bank accounts. The idea is that disability is a last resort. It isn't just a way to make things easier. 4chan is starting to restrict my replies, so they'll be really slow at this point if at all.
