Also what are you hoping for TH15? Which direction would you like to see ZUN take the series next?
How do you like DDC? What do you think ZUN got right in this game? What did he get wrong?

Just a few questions to get the ball rolling.

Hey this thread is shit. Perfect place for me to post this then.

Finally got my first 1CC. I'm ass of course, but still, it's a nice feeling. It was a pretty good run by my standards till stage 5 where I fucked up a lot. Remi also drained two lives for stupid reasons. All in all I wasted (died with) a total of 11 bombs or so. I really, really have a problem with going for the "skill dodge". That said my initial "never use bombs" approach combined with me playing StB helped, I think.

Think I may move on from EoSD though. I'd rather focus on the rest of the series, considering the standardized hitboxes and such. I gotta say PCB sure is different. Far more slow moving/dense patterns and spell cards seem to last for fucking ever.

No, because DDC throws retarded gimmicks at you as soon as you hit stage 5. EoSD is one of the better starting games because there's a lot of randomness in the boss patterns, fewer resources than most games (which forces you to try to dodge more things), and shorter deathbomb timers (teaches you to bomb before you get hit). I think it's also nice since it doesn't make you adjust to the bigger bullet hitboxes when you try it when it's the first game you played. PCB is another good choice as long as you aren't playing with SakuyaA or something. SA and UFO are okay, but might be a bit too unforgiving to start with. IN is also okay aside from the stupidly long deathbomb timers (especially border team) which I don't really approve of. MoF/DDC are a bit too lenient with the resources to be good starting games imo. TD is XXC and most of the stage portions you can practically just sit still unless stuff is aimed directly at you. I really wish I were joking.

SakuyaA's shots are homing and can let you sit at the bottom of the screen without knowing what you're doing. The shot is quite weak, but her focused bomb is incredibly strong and homing as well, plus she gets 4 bombs. This overall lets new players park on the bottom and wiggle around, not learning anything, and bombing through anything that gets even remotely difficult. It's a legitimate shot type but it isn't recommended for new players because it gives you bad habits and not much else.

>> No.11690346

>>11690246
>bad habits
Hahaha, I though after that little irony in >>11690068 no one would try to use these two words.
I saw dozens of new touhou players, their replays and streams. The main problem preventing them from 1cc is always lack of bombing, they often die with 3-4 bombs in stock. On the other hand I've never seen a single person who would suffer from excessive bombing.
>not learning anything
What exactly should they learn with non-homing shot type? In PCB for most of the spellcards ReimuB is actually even easier since bosses do not move that much anyway, but they die 2 times faster due to higher shot power, The only real difference is that you will need to memorize stages: where do every fairy spawn, which direction should you stream etc. And this "skill" will be worth nothing as soon as you move to the next game/difficulty.

You should start with EoSD; though the lack of a visible hitbox when focused may present a challenge, once you 1cc Normal/Hard/Lunatic on EoSD, PCB is a piece of cake. Also you get to see the story which builds on itself starting mostly at EoSD.

The games are most of the large events.
The manga are smaller events usually separate from the main characters, though they do show up often.
Even the music CDs have mini stories.

Touhou is just a collection of stories about Gensokyo.

Seriously though, use the wiki, look at the front page for all the official works. Most have the translations right there.

So, the small red bullets are aimed (you've probably figured that out) and the sweeping lasers are harmless until they reach the spot you were at upon the time they spawned. That is, if you know a laser is going to approach you from the left, then you'll want to position yourself to the right of Mokou. Once the laser gets close to you, move to the left. If you are at or further to the right of your starting location when the laser passes, then you'll get wrecked. Hope this made sense.
