I know there's a rule about quality but I think it's mean for the janitor to delete artwork he doesn't think is "good enough".

I don't expect /jp/ to be a hugbox with no negative criticism allowed (like DeviantArt) but holy shit it must hurt when your art gets deleted for being "too bad".

How are people supposed to improve like this?

I tried to post something earlier on but it got deleted. My guess is, it was so bad it wasn't even worth being in this thread. I managed to show my art to other people and they gave me some feedback.

- The drawing seemed very incomplete (it was just a face)
- The colouring was not very good
- It lacked impact
- It needed a little bit more drama. Something to make us relate to the character
- No ears

After working on it for the last two or so hours, I made my original content a little better. I hope that, this time, it's both to the janitor and the posters' standards. Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback.

It's a wonderful 4koma-style comic. The art faithfully portrays our janitor and it masterfully grasps current events. I am also satisfied with the inclusion of ears this time. There's only a few issues:

- It's got more than four koma.
- The maid outfit needs work. Maybe next time show us the skirt.

I am looking forward to seeing more of your art. Definitely one of the /jp/ artists one should be on the look-out for.

So... I suppose I'm getting started on a VN like game pretty soon. Really what it's going to be like is a visual forum CYOA with some basic stats involved. I don't know if that's close enough for me to be welcome in posting it here (along with how it takes place in the US) but I hope so, since /v/ wants nothing to do with me.

The basic plot is as follows:

>Directionless young man returns to his home town after 13 years to attend the funeral of his estranged mother.
>Town is fictional, but based slightly on a suburb of Olympia, Washington, on the small side and known for it's unpredictable weather.
>The guy ends up staying in the town with his mother's strange assistant after she implies his mother's death wasn't natural like he was told.
>He then develops a Psi ability over the beginning of the game.
>The ability allows him to create small shield like objects to protect himself from any harm.
>More strange happenings happen, all of which seem to center around six (five girls) people who also seem to have abilities.
>Each of these characters has "quest lines" to do that deal with the happening or mysteries in the town.
>To get the main ending you have to weave all of the lines together to figure out what the hell is going on.

I've been told it sounds kinda like Persona 4 but I've never played it. I'm guessing it also shares some traits with different VNs, but again I wouldn't know since I've only ever played one of them. That's one of the reasons I came by here today, to ask for recommendations but then I saw this topic and started typing this post.

Yeah, anime art is pretty diverse though, and I'll be going more for the "realistic" part of the scale where everyone have mostly correct proportions and nobody inexplicably has purple hair (the one who does, admits to dyeing it and almost everyone gives him shit about it) or something like that. I would like to have some else more experienced than me do the art but I have no money what-so-ever to pay them. I have an old draw pad I got as a gift recently so I was thinking if I practiced enough maybe I could get to an acceptable level to do it myself.

It's not so much that it's too serious, it's that at the start both feet are planted very firmly in the real world, as are most of the characters. It would be like if one of your IRL friends showed up at your house with their hair dyed purple and spiked, wouldn't that be worth some kind of mention since it's rare to see people like that? In a small conservative town like that he's probably one of the only people like that.

He also does things like fight with a sword and skips school to research these mysteries before anyone else in the story so he's all around pretty weird, looking at it from a real world perspective.

Is anything I'm saying making sense? I'm horrible at explaining even simple things like this.

It's commonly said by buyers of great artists' paintings (Picasso, etc.) that they buy paintings not because they're the product of technical expertise or deep thought, but because they are indicative of their time and place of production. They are like portals to the place and time they were made.

If you look at this thread and the ones before it, they are pretty much filled with, good or bad, depictions of the janitor. The janitor is in the collective mind of the board and this is reflected in its artists.

I have to wonder what /jp/'s masterpiece will be. What piece of art - perhaps not even a picture, or anything perceived by the people of today as art - will be hung on the wall of some future-museum as a memorial to our epoch? What will the futuregoers feel as they admire it? Is it possible to feel nostalgia for something you haven't yourself experienced? Will they sympathize with the janitor's futile struggle against the zombie-like shitposters? Will they hold him aloft in their minds as a selfless martyr? Maybe they'll feel distant regret at the unnecessity of it all. Philosophical conundrums like 'wch 2h fk' may be elementary to them. These things will come to pass but by then our eyes will be sealed shut by time.

The one on the right is the original, the one on the left altered because I was told that they have the same-face (They do.). Which is preferable in your opinion? The one on the left feels more difficult to draw because it was done as an alteration, but I will work on it if it looks better.

Hi guys, I'm back. After posting >>11608752 and >>11608997 I realized something must be very, very wrong with my art style. After all, I even got banned for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the policies or the moderation staff. It seems I'm only a little bit too slow to understand why original content based on a subject that has been deemed acceptable by the moderation team constitutes as a bannable offense. It took me a while to realise I wasn't banned for those reasons. While I did improve from one post to another, there were still a couple of flaws that some friendly people were able to point me out via channels outside the board, since my original content wasn't on the thread long enough to even get any replies:

- While the character is a little more fleshed out, the outfit seems too dull. It needed to be better worked on.
- I did make the main character more human, but it's not relatable enough, to anyone at all.
- I should focus a little more on the main character's personal life.

The third point isn't completely developed in this new attempt (I do show some glimpses of what's to come, a sneak peek so to speak), but I feel I dealt with the other two points well enough to try my luck one more time. I had to divide the strip in two, because the resolution was too large. I hope you don't hold that against me. As usual, thank you for all the input and I am open to input on how to improve my work.

If you want to make it take off you have to make it look decent. A well-done drawing of a worm-infested corpse is hardly flattering, but people will care more about it than MSPaint scribbles.

You rely on far too much text. Show, don't tell is crucial in comics.
Perspective is not consistent in even a single panel.
Using images for posters makes it look even more cheap and dilutes the idea you're trying to communicate.
If most of the comic is going to be internet and therefore text, you need a better way to show that isn't the face and back of the monitor. Don't feel limited by the panels and reality, go instead for representation of the board. It's better to show men in their twenties with sweat stained tshirts talking in a void with post numbers floating and streaming by.
There's a whole room for mockery left in the desktop area. Half consumed fast food, canned sodas and energy drinks, shitty chinese figure knockoffs barely holding on to their stands.
Try different fonts for internal janny dialogue and spoken speech. Drive the mockery up by using comic sans or faux chinese strokes fonts. Also don't use left align.
The ridiculous depiction of janny doesn't work if it's based from nothing. Work from established facts like sleep deprivation, lack of exercise and sunlight. A pathetic target of bullies that becomes a bully in the only place he has any power.

There is so much room for making a good comic against the moderation. Instead you're making the equivalent of going "look at me, I'm the Janny! I'm so dumb and ugly" with a silly voice, which works only at an elementary school playground.

As it is, it's a pretty transparent shit. Do it right.

You guys are right that I used too much text. I want to pass on the idea that the janitor's mind is highly dispersed, but it's hard to make small text to distinguish it from the main line using anime ace. Even so, I went too far in a couple of squares. As for the quality of the drawings, that's what the janitor deserves: something drawn in mspaint. He doesn't deserve a tablet, sai, photoshop, gimp or anything else. He should get a reward proportionate to his job and, from me, that's what he'll get. This ones' execution was dry. It was one of the ideas I wanted to put out there first, since it's one of the easier ones to execute. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. I hope my next attempt manages to live up to the expectations of the people who didn't really enjoy this one.

First of all you need to fix the perspective. Read Figure Drawing for All It's Worth. It will teach you how to put imaginary subjects into perspective. Where you put the horizon line is where you put the viewer's focus. Think about how you want the background to emphasise the subject, then change the abstract shapes into objects.

Different plane, different colour. Consider if a plane should be warmer or cooler, brighter or darker, or more intense or more muted. Yellow light reflected from plants will bounce off red and orange surfaces in an enclosed area to create a warm ambience. If their faces are visible to a lot of skylight, then they will appear grey and dreary which is undesirable. If they're in direct sunlight (harder option) you really must study forms and shadows first. At the moment they're flat as if in indirect light which is more forgiving of mistakes, so work with your skill level. If you stick to hard-edged cel-shading, you will learn more about form. Leave edge blending until all planes are blocked in.

It might seem like too much work but you'll learn a lot and permanently remember what to do in future pieces. These edits aren't intended to be ideal. Remilia is still sitting on a different horizon line. These are just a quick transformation to give you new ideas to work with.

So how would you guys do DNA for inheritance? I'm thinking of doing a bitset of all traits, where true=dominant and false = recessive. That way you could do Chromosome1 & chromosome2 to get which trait is expressed. Genetics would only be checked very rarely too so this would be a space-efficient solution as well I guess.

I was browsing through https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_genetics#Human_traits_with_simple_inheritance_patterns and thinking about just having like 100 traits like that.

Then combinging that with some other stuff.

I'm not sure how I'd handle passing of predispositions to stats though, like intelligence, strength etc. Let's say one parent has a genetic intelligence rating of 4, and the other has one of 8. Should it either get 4 or 8 randomly? Or a random value between 4 and 8? or what?

(this was posted on AGDG but didn't get any responses, I guess no one cared about loli genetics)

I've never textured low poly model before. Although I think I may need to do it again because it's too small to add any significant detail and her face also looks weird from the side so I might have to add more of a nose and chin definition.

3D is a lot different to 2D stuff. I like the colors but nothing else really. Does anyone else really do anything 3D?

It's a character of a friend. I don't really have any 'Original characters' in the sense so I always use her when playing around with new things. I think I managed to solve a bunch of my problems.

Maybe now that I know how to do this I will stop using such tiny texture maps and do a loli one.

Much better aliasing-wise. But its textures are still filtered and the whole thing has some odd sharpen filter going on, causing ugly ringing specifically around the edges.

I think I figured out what was causing the issue with the sharpening. I don't know what you mean by filtered textures though. I think for future reference I might just make larger texture maps. The one on her is only 256x256. I think I would much prefer a cleaner softer edge for shading and just a nice quality texture in general anyway. Do you do 3D stuff too?

It's standard to interpolate textures with bilinear, but it looks hideous for low detail. Nearest, often called point sampling when referring to textures, is much more squared.
