Being close-minded is a good way of creating a filter for yourself that ensures more of what you try will be enjoyable for yourself though. I don't expect people who much prefer live-action over animation to try something animated when there's so much live-action shit they could enjoy that they've yet to try. Why should it be expected of people who prefer 2D? And the 2D vs. 3D thing is just an example I'm using for how a preference can influence one's decisions on what they try. I enjoy even the most generic of slice-of-life incest eroge way more than the deepest, highest-rated visual novels. I don't really see the problem with this anyway though. It's a nice filter if you have tendency to only enjoy otaku media. There's too much content and too little time to be wasting your time on things you probably won't like.

Like some other robots here have alluded, it would be your upbrining and your experiences that make you who you are today. Which means of course that you can undo that.

What I've always wanted to do is go away from everything I know for a month or more, and go to a facility where they just constantly train me to be hyper social. Something like a social bootcamp. Of couse nothing like that exists. But I feel thats basically what I must do, as I've moved around a lot, and had great parents that just didn't tend to that area and focused on others more.

That way I could relearn and finally "get" what others seem to "get" naturally. I suppose a feasible alternative would be getting a really social friend (someone you want to be like/duplicate the effects of) and ask them if they can spend like a month with or more (ongoing) to just keep practicing and coaching you until you get to his level. I think thats what I'm going to do. I have a very charismatic cousin that everyone seems to like, so I'll see if he has some time to help me out
