It is really a mystery to me whether this board is the appropriate place to ask this.

But recommend some good Japanese music! I am always amazed that for such a small country, Japan is able to have such a strong and still growing music scene. Genre doesn't matter to me so long as the music is good.

If you are that cautious over people being trolls, then that is a little weird.

Check out my blog, its fairly well known in /mu/ and its full of Japanese bands of all genres, particularly more obscure ones, ones that even few Japanese themselves have heard of. I'm sure not every band is for you, so just download a single album from each band and see if you like em.

For melodic metal bands:

Animetal - Metal versions of anime tunes
* Galneryus - Neoclassical power metal, Visual Kei (earlier)
* Alhambra - Power/Progressive metal
Starless - Power metal
* The Black Mages - Nobuo Uematsu's metal band. I don't consider it a cover band, since he *wrote* the music to the games; here it's set to drums and rock instruments.
* X Japan (lol duh?) - The fucking fathers of almost all Japanese rock and metal.
Anthem - Heavy/Power metal
* Eizo Sakamoto - Heavy metal
* Onmyouza - Traditionally styled Visual Kei progressive metal
** Ark Storm (!!) - Neoclassical Power metal (like Yngwie)
* Seikima-II - Heavy Metal , Visual Kei
* Aphasia (all female) - Heavy metal, hard rock
Fairy Mirror - Power metal

She does a lot of OP/EDs for visual novels.

Also did a song in F/Z OIST and the OP to Myself;Yourself.
