As the type that doesn't really play the games so much as enjoy the doujins, I can't really say until I see how the new characters' fanon personalities develop.

HUGE SUCCESS.

At least, in my opinion. More varied and unique styles of danmaku, stage 4 is different for every character, some pretty good songs, spider loli.

Overall success. Brilliant in some places, stupid in others, with an overall lack of polish. The difficulty and new stuff makes it fun for longtime fans though.

Because you picked Alice as your partner. Also, bombs do not suck, Nitori's for example is quite amazing in a sense that you can bomb all you want as a precaution and if you don't get hit, you lose nothing.

I actually don't quite get this. Doesn't the bomb just kills all the bullets it hits anyway...so if you hide within the bomb's radius, you'd always get the power back?!

Maybe I should just try it...

The epic last battle makes up for everything else.

I haven't played it but I can already tell that the game sucks.

4th boss and last boss <3

Game is a success with several nice musical pieces. The difficulty level seems to have flew up the ramp compared to the others, but thats what makes it all the more challenging. I already heard about the nukes from here before playing, but the final boss still surprised me in a number of ways (cat face on the nuke sign). Gameplay wise I expected less for something using the same engine as MOF; I was surprised.

letdown
both Mof and SA were kinda weak. Still good games, still interesting and fresh bullet patterns, but the previous touhous were just so many levels of cool beyond the latest 2. Also, seems like the levels were too short. ZUN is still a cool guy though.

Overall success.
The characters look great. Interesting how the last two stages aren't the usual servant-master duo and that we finally have someone who wants to take over the world. Gameplay, it's a nice step up from MoF with new mechanics and the return of unique bombs. Difficulty is mercilessly wonderful. Graphically, the spell cards look astounding and things like the caution sign at the end were just priceless. Though the music was just mostly okay.

Overall success. Music is pretty good, though the core games (EoSD, PCB and IN) have it beat hands down, danmaku patterns are pretty good with some pretty awesome gimmicks throughout, final boss fight was amazingly fun. Character designs were pretty retarded though, stage 6 final boss looked ridiculous to the point I thought ZUN had lost it, but turned to epic the moment the nuclear raid sirens went off.

It's good. I'm not sure what the fan community are going to do with the new underground group though... MoF's shrine group are pretty awesome now and compete with other groups at a almost equal level in popularity, this new set of characters is has some interesting additions, Oni and Cave Alice have some potential, stage 1 bosses will fall into place like every other stage 1 boss but the rest are a odd fit. Orin will probably get a following but don't know what to make of the rest.

No one mentioned that the backgrounds are awesome in this game.
