/jp/ do you think you will still enjoy otaku media when you are middle aged?

i don't really have any other hobbies or interests so i am terrified that i'll have to talk with teens or disillusioned adults for the rest of my life. it's not a huge problem but i think it seems a little unhealthy.

What does enjoying your job have to do with losing interest in your hobbies?

I know guys who work in McDonalds, retail, the army and IT who still do what they enjoy in their free time. Two of them even have girlfriends.

I think you're just a loser who's convinced that people who work are sheep and zombies.

I think you're pulling assumptions out of your ass.

I've worked before and it killed any interest in doing things after my work was done. I got used to it after half a year but I'd still rather not do it.

I'm currently in university by the way.

I operated a forklift and pulled around trolleys full of boxes and could still find more than enough time for videogames and anime after working an 8 hour day for a little over a year, and those hobbies are smalltime.

Anyway, the point is it's not rare for people to keep their interests, you learn to plan your life around your job.

We're talking about Otaku hobbies for middle-aged men. If you really think that western middle-aged women would tolerate that kind of stuff at this point then you're an idiot.

Come on now. You already know how that thing is working. Playing games like Minecraft or whatever social-game you might find on IPhone isn't considered anymore as bad as it was before.

I've got lots of friends who are Sony addicted, but playing a Call of Something is just not the same as playing a Touhou games in the eyes of people, or whatever one using -cute- or -little girls- to that extent. It'd be pretty stupid of you to tell people that you play that kind of game and expect a good or neutral reaction of them in the first place.

These threads are depressing, some of you guys are real idiots and like that other guy said I wouldn't be surprised if you still thought people were "sheep" for typical things like having jobs and families.

Otaku media wasn't prevalent way back, especially in countries like the UK, and I'd imagine most of europe. In 20 years I'll be working and enjoying otaku things, god willing, just like my father enjoyed games.

Personally, when I had a job, although it took a lot of time and energy from me I somehow was a lot more productive in other things I wanted to do and gave more time to my hobbies. It was odd because I had less time to do them after all, but when I'm not employed I get comfortable in my laziness and don't really do anything at all, even things I enjoy. That's just me though.

I don't know if this example counts, but my aunt graduated from medical school at age 40. she has never worked a day in her life, the only reason she went to med school was to get her mother off her back because she kept hounding her about not doing anything. It took her 20+ years to graduate because she wasn't interested in being a doctor at all and only took 1 or 2 classes a year. she spent entire semesters at a time not doing anything

Why? I strongly disagree. I'm quite proud of my love for Touhou and am an easygoing person, and can't stand the idea of hiding who you are. That's precisely why people find me easy to talk to, as I encourage them to tell me about what they really like as well, even if it's not stuff I'm into.

It's sad that lots of otaku feel the need to stay closeted even as pride parades of all sorts are going down everywhere. Seems lots of people like to blame their hobbies for not being accepted, but it has to do more with your personality and how well you already are liked. Big popular celebrities sometimes reveal kinky stuff like they sexually enjoy getting peed on, and it doesn't hurt their popularity at all even if most of their fans aren't into it.
