You gotta switch up your attack types as she switches barriers.
At low health she completely shuts herself. You gotta deal a killing blow with some kind of exorcism. Dispelling it I remember will kill you.

Alice relies on her dolls, but she has a limited amount of them, three sets in fact.
They focus on different aspects, and have their own weaknesses. If you take care of the dolls quickly, Alice will soon fall. The three sets are The triangular physical attack formation, has no defenses whatsoever; the shield wall formation, particularly high physical defense; the four elemental formation, a counter attack is performed if a doll is hit with its own element, they're also color coded.

If you're using either Marisa, Patchouli, Mokou, or Nitori (?), take advantage of their AoE elemental spells. You can wipe out the Defense and Physical formations in one go.

Otherwise just make sure the fight doesn't go on any longer than necessary. She continues applies new buffs after certain turn counts have been met, and if you take too long the dolls will get to the point where they will eat you alive.

Actually, I am quite surprised myself I hit 34k. The numbers light up as if its a weakness (weekend addition for your information), but the boss actually has no light weakness.
It may be a crit.
I probably used everything possible as I was aiming for one turn kill, max Light, Light enhance, mdef down, the strongest bomb with barrier/reflect piercing. It was so long ago, I can't recall the details. Her MDEF is 200, so it shouldn't really be an issue.
Is your Reimu full Exorcism and Spirit Attack? I used Fantasy Heaven and Hell for the bomb, you probably can use a commander to boost the damage additionally for one turn, like Patchouli.

Having some difficulty with Komachi. Her "Money from Yesterday" card seems to be doing way too much damage for me to survive. Even with Sanae's Res/Def up buffs.

One tip says to use Dark spells to push the field, but the only choices are Byakuren and Patchouli, both of which I'm not using. Surely there is something else I can do? If I must I'll grind to get Patchouli up, and replace her with Marisa if need be, but I'd rather not.

Presumably Labyrinth of Touhou 2 takes a more direct approach to Etrian Odyssey, which has me really hyped for it's release.

My problem is that I have played some Etrian Odyssey before (well, the only one I have won is the 3rd one), and I think it kind of spoiled me with its 1st person view and dungeon design (not to mention how random battles were more than "attempt to explode the enemy before they explode you").
And LoT 2 is taking some things from EO is a more... shameless way. It has FOEs (kind of, they seem to static to be true FOEs), and ways to jump from one point to another in a same floor (the shortcuts), and random battles seem less prone to die in one AOE (though that may be because no Patchy yet).
I do really miss the huge SP pools though. It seems they are going pretty conservative in that front.

All the stage 21 enemies are statistical monsters and not much else. Remember this stage is very short, and there's a healing right behind you in 20. Give them everything you've got!

The minibosses are different. If you run into one you're not prepared for, run. No exceptions. Do note that enemies vanish if you run from them in this stage.
And fuck the mechadragons. I don't even bother fighting them.

I see! I did encounter a couple of oddly named mobs like Druid and some Storm demon guy whom I ran from. Druid dropped the Nitori parts though, which would have been nice if I used her I guess.

Anyways, I assume this fight is supposed to be really slow-paced? If Patchy hadn't been petrified in the first turn she would have been lower. Putting my cure back on the skill table now! Presumably there is, but I never figured out if there was a easy warping system or not. There are however teleporters available inside each stage, but those only activate one you get to the boss. If you need to leave a stage quickly, open your menu (which saves your game) and then quit. You'll be ported right outside the stage - it's the only way I've figured it to work.

To make some enemies respawn in an area (they don't all come back) you just got to use a healing circle multiple times. Like the one at the Hakurei Shrine.

Kill her quickly is all that you can do. Use one of the super-baiting formations (like Hinotori Skydance) to help. Buffing Def/Eva will help mitigate some of her damage, and Res is necessary to counteract Yuyuko.

Youmu is weak to magic and the greater of the two threats, so I personally just bombed the fuck out of her. Otherwise the only thing to do is pray to god she doesn't use any of her more devastating abilities, because they can and will kill people. Once you got her out of the way, Yuyuko is pretty easy so long as you maintain a Res buff. Just watch out for her cheap shot at the end.

Except it completely misses the original problem. Certainly I could throw somebody into the Commander slot whilst going through a stage to keep them somewhat on-par with other characters. However that isn't the case here, because if you paid attention you'd know that I'm stuck at Stage 9 because I don't have enough secondaries sufficiently leveled to allow for a successful Reisen/Tewi fight.

Certainly in retrospect balancing the commander slot time with people wouldn't have been a bad idea, but currently that is neither here nor there. Well, the game just punishes you for playing like idiot.
Both Byakuren and Satori are pretty useful even at level 1 during this fights (if properly geared). Alice can be used as decoy even at level 1 (even if it's just for one turn). You can divide your main party 3/3, add Satori to the first party and Byakuren to the second, put anyone from the rest of level 1 characters as commander. That should be more than enough to defeat those bosses if you know what you are doing (especially since your main party must be overleveled).
If you think that this game can be beaten by simple "press A" tactics you are wrong. If you think that this game requires any grind you are wrong, too.

Generally, your physical attackers' character specific weapons are fantastic in comparison most of the crap you find especially due to their superior weapon trees. It's only until you get to the late/endgame that you find generic weapons that are significantly powerful.

Sakuya, Mokou, Nitori, and Youmu's specific weapons have incredibly substantial bonus abilities in addition to their far better weapon specific trees.

For the miscellaneous other party members, it depends on the bonuses and what would be useful for them. Alice gets rainbow greaves, but some people use Tefla's or Brunhilde I think. Reimu can get use out of the rod that has gives faster casting speed for healing spells and Aya can get use out of the axes that have instant death effect. And if you're using Patchouli to melee, she can just equip an axe.

Many generic weapons are pretty pointless, but some on the other hand are really great. Ten Dice Sword, Kusanagi, Vivian's Excalibur, Ultima Weapon, True Claíomh Solies, Sacred Akiba Cherry Blossom and Azoth are all really great and usefull at the end of the game. And yeah Patchy's later books boost light, dark, mys, and void(?) attacks. Seems... situational. Magic exorcism is nice but you can get that from some staves. They've got some ridiculous physical attack though. Has anyone here tried physical patchy?

On the topic of equipment what have you guys done as far as armor goes? Sakuya's and especially Nitori's armor have great added effects. Youmu's is pretty good too. Everyone else I feel is fine without character-specific stuff, though Mokou could always use more bombs.

Xu Fu's is pretty hilarious in the lategame when Mokou has huge HP.

It scales so well that she was healing like 400 HP per turn in this fight. She was able to simply just suffer through Alice's many repeated kamikaze dolls.

Isn't this the norm, outside of a few exceptions? Nitori's stats aren't anything special and chasers are a great way to make up for it. Of course this is moot if your party doesn't have a bunch of elemental attackers.

Switched Marisa and Patchy, which means that phase 1 and 2 are now complete easy-modo, but also that my only Dark-attack user is not present for the latter part. Some of these abilities seem ridiculous, and the rate at which they boost land-powers is also seemingly too fast for Sakuya to be able to negate with Empty World.

I'd criticize you for not having Byakuren to buff Youmu with dark sword and ATK buff instead of Sanae, but then I realize you're probably the anti Satori/Byakuren player.

Any DPS that's not Kusanagi or Youmu wielding the Doujigiri is fairly pointless for the third phase.

For some actual advice, if you're using Sakuya for the third phase instead of Patchouli then you'll need to time her time stop to entirely skip the turns the final boss will use drain element. Either that or have Alice little legion and Sanae prepped to revive her immediately. The fight will most likely last a lot longer for you due to lack of dark sword for Youmu so you'll need to plan it out for endurance instead of killing fast. Youmu might not even have enough Paschals to get the job done so you might need to give her a soul accessory, but it's very likely you've already stuck the awakened soul on Mokou since she has terribly low bombs.

I honestly beat the final boss the first time I ever got past the first phase with a team of Aya, Reimu, Mokou, Satori, and Marisa for the first party and the pictured party for the second. I didn't even have Kusanagi or medeoroa during the fight and banked it all on Youmu with Doujigiri. Between Satori and Reimu, there was literally no way for the first phase to significantly endanger my party whatsoever. For the last phase I admittedly got very lucky since vortex did hit my party, but it only dispelled Youmu's one defensive buff the time it happened.

You could've spent that time to get better tastes. Read At Chirei, Pure Jade Anthocyanin, some Omchiken's works. Then find playlist of 3-rd eye arrangements on youtube. And finally download the boss rush patch for SA and get through all Satori's 20 spellcards in one go.
And now serious advice: you should replace Marisa with Patchouli. Marisa still can do decent elemental damage in phase one. But she cannot manipulate land and attack with dark magic which is a must in phase 3 if you're not using Satori/Byakuren.

Any elemental spells increase land levels. Patchouli can use silent selene every other turn. Other half of the turns she can use the element opposite to the one with the biggest influence (e.g. if boss uses fire a lot, she should cast water damage spell).

Also, if you've never ever realized it somehow for the entirety of the main game, You can cancel out of your first party member's turn to go to the initial fight menu where you can see the field effect, use your commander abilities, and see the land gauges.

Fire and water are opposites, same for Earth/Electric and Dark/Light. So casting water spells when the gauge is shifted towards fire will shift it back towards the center and vice versa.

What equipment have you crafted? How well are your characters geared? Also you're making sure Mokou and Youmu have chance for double hit, right?

If you have kusanagi though, it might be best for you to move Mokou to the second team to DPS the final phase as best as you possibly can and prepare a long drawn out, but consistent battle for the first phase.

Ah, I guess my lack of knowledge is showing. I was under the impression that it was only one of Patchy's growth trees that made spells enhance land levels. I know all the sisters' weaknesses, yes. As mentioned before, I'm having trouble making Nitori do damage as well, even when equipped with respective weakness spells. Rage Eight hits 2/8 shots if I'm lucky, and only for negligible damage. I can make better use of Marisa, certainly, and I have Turtlesmasher equipped on Mokou, so I have her use Fujiyama Volcano on Biotopos, not Lithos. It's just not enough damage.

I'm stuck with my worst damage dealers in phase 1 for various reasons, and it's fucking us up big time. I'm pretty sure phase 3 at this point is going to be easier than phase 1 given that Alice has pretty much all the items she needs to negate any damage coming from the final form.
