Stuff drops more often, stuff costs less to craft, Satori learns skills much easily. There's a mini-map (you fill it up, it's not all mapped from the start) and an easy mode (which is stupidly turned on from the start, so turn it off unless you're terrible)

I never used the chasers much.

Aya is my favorite Touhou and it breaks my hear that she's the worst character in the main game. She's a good dodge tank with the right formation and is can do some cool stuff with her turn manipulation stuff.

Just spent the last hour trying this, and wasn't able to make it to normal mode phase 3 once. Without Alice in party 1 to constantly have hourai doll up, Anastasis keeps killing everyone but Mokou in 1 hit. I made it to phase 2 a couple times, but with half my party dead, I can't put out enough damage to finish in 9 turns.

I really loved the game up to this point. It was hard, but with the right strategy, everything was reliably beatable, but this last fight just seems like a bullshit exercise in your patience with RNG. I'm actually coming back to this game after dropping it about a year ago when it was /jp/ flavor of the month. Before dropping it I spent a few days trying wiki recommended strategies, or anything on youtube that was successful, but to no avail. In every video I can find of someone beating the boss, she just kind of pisses around and doesn't do that much. But every time I get to her, she spams the fuck out of void, land amp, and andromeda nebula.

Fuck. I just want to get to do the expansion stuff, but this sc­hlong swall­owing sh­it lor­d of a boss is cock blocking me from a third of the content left in the game.

Losing all your new items on death didn't make the game hard, it just made it tedious. All it meant was that when you got a rare drop, you immediately hauled ass out of the dungeon to save, because the amount of time it took to save and rekill the few enemies that respawn from going back to the overworld was far less then the amount of time it would have taken to grind for another orichalcum shard with the stupidly low drop rate.

Here's how I pass stage 1.

Skydance. Satori (with Medorra, Starlight Barrier, Leaf Shield, Plasma Ball, Mass Heal, Clearance) and Marisa (all SINGLE TARGET elemental spells) in back, Sakuya (dagger spec, with mambele and private square) and Mokou (with turtlesmasher) in front, Aya (with dodge gear and an anti-thunder shield) in the middle. Commander is Reimu.

At the start, have Aya use her dodge field spell. Anastasis is now harmless, save the once in a blue moon time she actually lands and a hit.
Satori keeps a barrier (starlight or leaf) on everyone as much as possible, especially the two in front. Also heals and cures.
Litho's charge attacks will wreck you. When she comes out, have Sakuya use private square boosted by Aya's first strike spells. That's the timer for this stage; you need to win before Sakuya runs out of mana.

For offense, Marisa uses elemental weaknesses, Mokou volcanos Biotopos, Sakuya uses multi-hit attacks on Lithos (and maybe Anastasis? I forget,) Satori zaps Anastasis and Medorras if she's not busy. Don't spend all your bombs and mana; you want to be able to hurt the next phase pretty bad with this party, so your 2nd party can afford to buff up in stage 2.

You can clear most of the game without actually concerning yourself with the shop, relying only on dungeon finds, you gotta hit enemies where they're weak. After you have enough health to survive the strongest blows, strategy comes first.

Mokuou is stupidly overpowered in this game. Insane dmg output, insane amount of hp, free regeneration and self-resurrect, double chance to inflict status effect on hit, ignores shield. Two buffs from Byakuren and she takes almost any boss in 2-3 hits.
Still I almost never used her in my party (except for the split way levels). I just cant stand her as 2hu, the worst character in the series.

It's a good idea. Nitori is a good character, and Alice is an ESSENTIAL character latter on in the game and for bosses.
There will be parts of the game were you want your whole team at a decent level. This is not as hard as it seems; just mix up your party from time to time, and use that commander slot.

Note, though, it's not the end of the world if you don't do this. You'll just have to grind a bit, which usually isn't necessary.

Alice is pretty odd.
Marionette Parrar (or parry or however) allows you to lend her equipped shield to those affected in a column for a limited amount of activations.
A well-chosen shield will often minimize the damage up to ZERO damage taken, if Alice can cover her allies.
Of course she has other tools where she can shield elemental damage, pull aggro, or cover enemies with her own body and such.

Regarding shield mechanics. The EVA on a shield is its activation chance. It can only activate for elements the shield lists along with it's modifier(it modifies the chance). Upon activating it adds all of its PDEF MDEF and other stats for the hit. A shield can't activate if the user is readying a swing with a two-handed weapon or readying a spell cast. (But it can activate AFTERward in the same turn.)

The final postgame boss is just painful. Every character I have is at least level 90, barring Cirno who's 89, and I still haven't beaten the fucker. I can get past the first stage usually by abusing Private Square and Sakuya's huge fuckoff Ice sword, and I can usually get past the second stage by using poisons and status afflictions, but I've never managed to beat the final form, and it's really soul-draining because I have to go through the first two forms again after re-juggling all my equipment and characters to fix whatever minor mistake I made the previous time around. Has anyone here beaten The Incident? And, how did you do it?

As an aside, Satori is my absolute favorite character. Status afflictions are great, and I love how you can actually use them against enemies. This must be like the only JRPG where they're not worthless. I also really like "Blue Mage" type characters.

Made my Tewi team a little more Evasion/Accuracy based and added Sakuya for more damage. Went down easily! It left my Reisen team a lot weaker than it needed to be, but surprisingly I managed to beat her too even though Marisa and Nitori went down two turns in.

IND increases:
* success rate of putting a negative debuff (quick/permanent/varriety)
* power of your variety status effects (both positive and negative)
* duration of buffs/debuffs and field effects
* dmg per turn for poison
Power/duration increase for buffs/debuffs is capped at 100 IND. After that IND will only increase the chance to put a negative status effect on enemy.

I think that all monsters respawn after three-to-five stage entrances. So the fastest thing to do is go to the main map, go to a different stage than the one you want the monsters to respawn on, and go in and out a couple of times.

I beat the boss with Patchouli in party 1. I didn't even know that people would want to keep her in party 2. If you neutralize the land before the final phase it should all work out well. She can't do much against the final phase anyway.

Decided to give Satori a chance. Didn't do much! The only status debuff that I've ever seen affect either of them is Venom. Sure, it deals decent damage, and I did get Eirin almost dead a couple of times, but I thought things like Greater Confusion and Silence were also supposed to affect Kaguya? Seeing no way past this fight at the moment unless I go on another lucky streak.

I also tried dispelling the buffs, but given the fact that I put all of Sanae's IND items on Satori, I might as well just have her attacking instead.

Only mind control works on her. Kaguya has 95% resistance from confusion/silence (and that doesn't include her default RES protection). She has somewhat weak (compared to other bosses) resistance to variety debuffs (just 25%), so it would be better to try that.

There are a couple more of those chests to find. They are not easy to find, though. Usually they're set on blind spots/hard to see areas. The wiki should help you in getting every one of those. For reference, by the time I reached stage 21, I already had enough of those to build the Yasakani no Magatama and Yata no Kagami.
