The usual. Chat with fellow players, ask for help on problematic spots, blog about your progress. Share scoring strategies.

-

Streams: http://stgrillz.appspot.com/

-

Keeping up the old challenges for now since the old thread passed by so swiftly. (I'm changing them for the next thread, though)

Scoring challenge: Score in DDC Normal/Lunatic
1. Every shot-type is welcome
2. The run must be done within the thread, no old scores.
3. Replays or screenshots will be required for posts with scores.

Special challenge: Gather as many lives as you can in DDC Normal as quickly as possible
1. All shots welcome
2. Replays required for submissions
4. The runs will be ranked by amount of lives > progress done in the game.

You have time for until this thread ends (i.e. it hits the bump limit)!

Day 2 of trying to 1cc EoSD on Lunatic

http://replays.gensokyo.org/download.php?id=28580

I've practiced the first three stages a fair bit, but this was only my second time seeing Stage 4 and anything beyond it. I'm quite proud of how well I handled Stage 4 considering that.

I bombed a little excessively during Patchy, but I'll just get better over time.

One thing that's surprising me is Cirno's very first non-spell. On Normal and Hard, it's easy enough to just go around those bullet clumps, but on Lunatic they're simply too wide, too fast, and there's too many of those other bullets to completely maneuver AROUND them. However, I have no idea how to maneuver THROUGH them.

Any tips or suggestions for how I'm playing?

>> No.10979349

>>10979135
Thanks for taking your time to make a replay and everything, but I think I'm just going to bomb this one. I almost managed to capture it a couple times using your way, but no cigar. Even if I did, I would just die 9 times out of 10 when doing a run, retry and never get any progress done.

1ccing UFO on hard seems like it will be a long, difficult and tedious journey. SA was much easier.

Misdirect the first shot to either left or right, let her shoot the second one in the center and then just dodge it at one of the sides where it's not as thick and just stay there and let her shoot the third one directly at you, usually just a sigle tap to one of the sides is enough to evade it since it has wide gaps.
At least that's how i like to do it.

Or you can just use the safestop behind her lika a pussy.

UFO is, by far, the most difficult game to 1cc on Hard. It's true that the game gives you a lot of resources, but collecting those resources poses some major risks and the game itself is just fucking hard anyway.

By the time I managed 1cc UFO on Hard, I had over 35 hours of playtime on that game alone.

Would you care to see the replay?

Maybe at the corners this is easier to do. I tried evading them in the center, and the very first volley always got me. The gaps are not very wide at all.

Thanks for the suggestion, though; I'll give it a shot.

What type of keyboard do you guys use for 2hu?

I can handle normal difficulty without much trouble if I have a gamepad (although mine has unfortunately broken), but I'm lucky to even get past stage 4 on easy when I use a keyboard. I dunno if it's a matter of having to get used to it or if my keyboard is just shit. Whenever I try to do minute movements on my keyboard I end up going way further than I want to and I find navigating through tight spots or complex patterns to be incredibly awkward to the point where it's near impossible.

It sounds like you don't know how to tap. For a simple trick, if you really find you can't move a bit left or right as precisely as you need to, then simply hold down and move diagonally which is slower. This can even be done at the bottom of the screen giving you sort of a superfocus there.

You might possibly have input lag actually. Though I don't believe that can happen with a wired keyboard, if it's wireless maybe.

Generally any keyboard performs exactly the same unless it's a crappy one which has an issue hitting multiple buttons. Button placement may also factor.

Though, I prefer laptop keyboards since the buttons are flatter. It's more often than not though that laptop keyboards have the crappy not reading multiple button inputs issue.

You don't tap softly. You tap fast. Keyboards don't care about the strength of your button pressing.

Also yes, keyboards sacrifice fluidity for precision. While gamepads offer fluid control, keyboards offer precise control. It's easier to make minimal movements with a keyboard which is really helpful for more dense bullets.

How far are you going with a tap? And what character and game are you playing?

A couple of screenshots with your original position and position after attempting to tap may give us a better idea of how far you're moving with a single one.

I'm trying to 1cc my first touhou game on normal. Here's a link to a replay http://replays.gensokyo.org/download.php?id=28596.. If any experienced players could be kind enough to give me ANY critiquing on my gameplay, I would appreciate that very much. I can get to Kaguya every time I play, but I can never beat her because I don't have enough lives or bombs. I'll be here all day. Thank you in advance to any advice.

I've been trying complete a no-bomb no-death run in Touhou 11's stage 3 for about 4 hours total so far. This is the best I've gotten so far:

Playing MarisaA, play the stage focused and the boss unfocused to utilize MarisaA most effectively. It is however best to switch to focused to deal with ghost fairies during Orin at times.

Playing MarisaB, switch to watershot for the stage, and fire shot for bosses. The other shots have some use during Parsee, but generally you'll find them useless except for earthshot(the one that shoots straight behind you) against Orin.

Playing MarisaC, learn to bomb whereever you think you have a chance of dying. This can be nigh-impossible for some people. Also if you have decent enough reflexes to deathbomb, then there's literally no reason not to use ReimuA instead.

Okay, I've played SA stage 3 to the end 70 times now and I still can't get through without dying.

I find 90% of my deaths are from the red diagonal lasers immediately before the boss fight. Even if I do tons of vertical dodging I seem to either get hit by a laser I didn't see, or I get trapped one of the blue orbs.

If I manage to survive the level and most of the boss fight, I end up dying to the "Mt Ooe" spellcard.

They're my favorite shot type for IN, honestly. I immensely enjoyed MarisaC in MoF and this is the only shot type that's been similar. Parking your turrets on one side of the screen and moving yourself to the other side will kill enemies that stream in from both sides MUCH faster than the homing shot types could ever wish for. It's also fucking GREAT when battling Reimu, when she keeps running to the other side of the screen.

I haven't tried playing Lunatic, but I cleared Normal, Hard, and Extra with the Scarlet team.

Scarlet Team is great. What are you talking about.

>> No.10996713

>>10996681

It depends on what you mean by "cleared", and you're also insinuating that there's an objective way to tell whether someone is a secondary.

Personally, if you can 1cc any of the 2hu games on Normal (that is, beat the entire game without using continues and only starting with the default number of lives), then I don't really see you as a secondary.

The term 'secondary' is meant to refer to people who are into 2hu for the fanmade stuff, as opposed to the canon material and games. Most people will come across fan material first, as it's more accessible and widespread, but what imaginary line you have to cross to not be a 'secondary' hasn't reached consensus. Some people say "once a secondary, always a secondary", and since this is the internet, it's hard to tell how serious people are when they say stuff like this.

Again, personally, I think if you've played any of the games long enough to get a Normal 1cc on them, you're not a secondary.

>> No.10996716

I thought secondary meant you read secondary touhou material like doujins or MMD on youtube rather than playing the games

By original definition, "secondary" means you first got interested in Touhou through fanmade works. Doesn't even matter how much you play now. You could be the record-holder and still be a secondary. It's a label you should never take seriously or care about.

>> No.10996744

Primary Touhou fan: One who became interested in Touhou due to it's games. A longtime fan of shmup/arcade/retro-esque games, this person likes Touhou for it's actual gameplay, music and/or art/style. Probably has an interest in secondary works, but most likely enjoys the main games and ZUN's works more so.

Secondary Touhou fan: One who became interested in Touhou due to some offshoot (dojin works, IOSYS, fanart, 4chan...). May or may not have an interest in its main genre and more likely have not really played the games; if they did play, it's only to see what the game is like and doesn't get into it (i.e. 1CCing normal or completing extra). However, probably enjoys the side games (IaMP and SWR) and may or may not enjoy the fanworks. This is also the typical "Touhoufag."

Maybe I've just never been in a situation where it would happen, but it seems to not even be a feature/bug of 6 - 9.
