I love Loveless, but it's not accessible at all. You need to understand that if you take someone away from touhou arrangements and j-pop and put them in a room with Loveless all they hear are vacuums and maybe some girl whispering, if they get that far.

Dream Pop is a lot easier to stomach for people who aren't introduced to more noisy music, and once they're comfortable with Dream Pop and want something more dense they can move on to shoegaze.

That's fair logic as far as /jp/ goes, but Loveless is a quintessential shoegaze album, and it holds a spot as an influential album with a legacy. You would start shoegaze with Loveless, just like you would start no wave with Daydream Nation, or psychedelic rock with TVU&N, or indie/psych folk/whatever/igiveup//mu/ with ITAOTS.

I disagree. It's ok to start with something that's "the greatest", but for music that hardly ever works. You need to ease your way around music genres like you would do with food, or porn.
If someone is looking to try something spicy, but has never eaten or so far enjoyed anything spicy, would you suggest they try the spiciest of peppers? You can start them off on pleb peppers, as long as you trust they'll move on to better, more intense peppers.

No huge point in listening to it now, you'll only get the "Seinfeld is unfunny" effect from it. They basically laid the foundations for independent/alternative rock music and everything that made them special in the first place has been run into the ground by everyone after them.
Still an excellent album though, and worth a shot. Who knows? It might blow your mind after all.
