The fact is that the perception of 'cuteness' is a real, physical process. What goes on in your head isn't arcane magic, but electrons migrating to neighboring neurons and creating abstractions. The perception of 'cuteness' is unarguably tied to defenselessness. That was the reason it was evolved. This isn't to say that an extremely capable thing can't be cute, but it is to say that it's not as cute as it would be if it was defenseless.
