Hideaki Anno, director of Evangelion
>"Otaku, in a narrow sense, do not change. I resigned myself to the fact that their understanding would probably not change in my lifetime. Of course, they are conforming to a single standard. As long as they are alive, they only like the same things. They’re not looking for change. They endlessly seek the same pleasures. Even if you say that other interesting things exist, they can’t be bothered. It’s something they didn’t ask for and don’t care for.

Has /jp/ changed yet?

Otaku are not 'changing' because you are not changing your view on them. Otaku is not a fact, it is a opinion, and thus entirely alterable depending on the person.

Otaku do not change because you think only those who score unchanging points are Otaku.

You can't be 'correct' about what's the best lifestyle choice. Actually, you can, but the 'lifestlye' is so incredible other-worldly and impossible that it's silly. The best possible lifestyle, ie the lifestyle resulting in the largest amount of joy/pleasure, would require all the matter in the universe be arranged in such a way that it becomes an organ of your own usage, whose sole purpose is to cause you to feel pleasure/joy/etc.

Lifestyle is a description of how one lives life... There is no perfect way to live life. The closest thing to a 'perfect' lifestyle is death, because there is no life, and thus no flaws.

The happy life is thought to be one of excellence; now an excellent life requires exertion, and does not consist in amusement. If Eudaimonia, or happiness, is activity in accordance with excellence, it is reasonable that it should be in accordance with the highest excellence; and this will be that of the best thing in us.

Why is happiness superior to all other emotions? Certainly it is wanted, but having happiness in an overabundance is not that great.

Argueably the greatest state of 'happiness' is the peak of an orgasm. Would you want to live your life in a state of perpetual orgasm? Would you not just get used to it?

Anno makes the mistake of thinking that otaku are the ones who need to change. If they are "sick" it's only because the world has made them so. At the same time, I understand his frustration because change in a system cannot occur without precedent change of the individual parts. Ironically, Anno himself has not changed; he's still making Evangelion.

>Anno "If I myself change, then maybe I can find a different approach. I feel, at least for now, that it can no longer be something like Evangelion. Perhaps it can't be that sort of desperate and pressurized work. Something a little bit more pleasant would be good, I think."
