A good way to leech off your parents is to mystify them with intellectual topics they can't understand. Like surround yourself with philosophy and then when they bother you about getting a job pretend you suffer too much over some work they can't understand. >One joined the marines and wants me to do anything.

People who work can't understand that they cling to work out of fear. They don't understand how a NEET can live without working and be happy.

They feel frightened if they don't have someone telling them what to do so that they can feel like their life has purpose. The idea that life is an open world sandbox game frightens them because it leads to the conclusion that there's no real difference between sitting in one place and doing nothing compared to working hard and trying to achieve things. They want a linear RPG with a reward at the end and working gives them the illusion of that. In around 60 years or whenever they retire then they will realize it was just a mirage.

Our existence helps to provide a useful service to normal people, but it's not a service that they want to use or acknowledge.

Observing a NEET helps to bring you back down to reality since you're seeing someone who lives without many luxuries, still lives in his parent's home, and yet he's even happier than they are. It helps remind the office worker who's clocking in 11 hours a day that he should slow down and savor the little things in life because all that money he's working for isn't going to make him happy.

Our services aren't wanted here though. That's probably why western Christian monks have to grow their own food while monks in other countries walk through town with their NEET buckets and get free food from everyone.

>But are we really?

Depends on how you live. If you spend your time doing things that you enjoy then you probably are, but if you spend your time doing things you don't like then you probably aren't very happy.

If you feel like you need to work for your happiness though then that's the result of growing up in a country where that Protestant work ethic has been conditioned into your mind since you were born.

That's the primary cause of this. Even though many of us aren't religious anymore, our cultures are still deeply embedded in the whole "Everyone must work. Not working is a sin. If you don't work then you can't eat. If you're still eating and you didn't work then God hates you and you should feel guilty." nonsense that the Protestants were spewing.

It does much more harm than good though since it just breeds entire populations of workaholics who will end up dying early from stress and encourages a society that is obsessed with basing their entire life around purchasing shit with all the excess money they're making. It doesn't even make much sense within the context of the religion since supporting a NEET is essentially charity and that's supposed to be a good thing in Christianity.

I wish I could be NEET, but if I quit my job at Walmart my parents would kick me out of their basement and I'd die. I don't even know how to drive a car.

I don't know how much longer I can stand being a cashier though. It's so loud, and I can't fake any interest in talking to people at the register. I also stopped caring how fast I ring up people, It's kind of fun to watch the normies get real mad that I'm doing it at my pace when I have this long line.

Or when I'm carefully tetrising all their items perfectly into bags, and they get real anxious like they have things to do, and start trying to get me to hurry it up. Normies lol.

I do load people bags into their carts 90% of the time at least. It makes it seem like I'm being a nice cashier since I can't fake any positive interaction with them otherwise.

I wish the other cashiers would stop trying to talk to me though. You'd think they'd get the hint after two years that I don't want to talk to any of them, but they continue to try and small talk with me all day. Real life isn't as good as fiction, but there's no reason that you can't take the fiction that you want and perceive it as reality within your mind. If they say nothing, don't say anything until their total, or they ask me a question. Generally they'll say their doing fine, and either say nothing, or ask you how you're doing. In the first case, I don't say anything unless they have a question, If they ask me how I'm doing, "Oh, I'm doing well today" wait a second or two and then "Would you like to apply for a Walmart Credit Card today?". I'm not sure, I think you'd have to add it all up. The average NEET doesn't need to go to the doctor nearly as much as dogs do, so pretty much no medical bills. Your food costs more, but you can eat human leftovers to save money while dogs/cats eat their own special food. The PC is a one time purchase so that's not too bad. The room is a downside though, but at the same time you stay in your room while a dog or a cat is running all over the house and getting fur on everything so you require far less cleanup and attention.

It might be close, but I think a low maintenance NEET still costs about as much as a dog if you add up all the expenses.
