Correction: Eva is overrated, but not shit if you watch it for its worth as a series instead of as a "classic".
Rebuild is overhyped, commercialized shit completely devoid of any kind of soul or uniqueness, though. It's an attempt to dilute Eva for the mundanes, and it ends up turning it into just another mecha-romance-action franchise, and not even a good one. Eva did become shit after End, but a lot of people are driven to hate the whole franchise because of the 30-year-old neckbeards who sputter and burble about how 80's anime is the only redeemable animation ever, and how only they can appreciate it. Eva is abused as a "deep" e-peen boost, but on its own, it's a great series, just not "revolutionary".
