Corrie is best soap.

Deal with it, Eastendaboos.

>> No.10750523

Wrong. Hollyoaks is the best soap. It appeals to me because everyone on Hollyoaks acts like my peers and it deals with contemporary issues such as going to da club and breaking up w/ your gf. I relate very much to the characters portrayed so it's cool because "da youf" is represented on a national television level when we're usually portrayed as bad. But Hollyoaks gets us. So, fuck off grandad. Basically.

You're getting Hollyoaks confused with the over-the-top, trying-too-hard, teenage-pandering clusterfuck that is Skins.

Hollyoaks is actually quite good.

I cannot understand the appeal of this show. It tries to show "youth culture" but it's absurdly exaggerated and is only reflective of youth culture because they emulate what they're seeing on the show.

Because it's the sort of thing teens can tell themselves is "realistic" and then they can imitate it.

Although, Charlie Brooker did a segment where he asked a group of youths what TV they liked. Turns out they all liked good television (old sitcoms and stuff) and hated Skins. A few of them watched it begrudgingly or ironically.

I also remember an interview with the actor who plays the gay guy. He's straight in real life and, at the time of the interview, was pretty normal and had never had a girlfriend before. It's just funny that most teenagers are probably more like this, and less like the dumb stereotypes you see in Skins (not that they don't exist in real life).

Most people are normal; that's how normal works. What I can't stand is how they're clearly glorifying the extraordinary as the norm. Of course, this could be said of practically every show. It just bothers me how something so shallow could be so popular. I guess that's pretty normal too.

People have "Skins parties".

(see also: the news)

If I was a teenager I'd be embarrassed as fuck to imitate something so shamelessly.

But like, teens are usually all counter-culture and stuff. This is exactly the sort of programme where I can imagine its watchers saying, "Yeah! This is the real deal, not like that stupid Blue Peter crap the BBC tries to feed us!"

Just go to the pub and your mates' house and the odd gig and have a good time. You're not the first generation of teenagers to have access to drugs and alcohol, but if you act like this then you are easily the most retarded one.
