I'm sorry that your thread got completely derailed, I guess that's what happens when you post one of those fairies.

To answer your question, I think it's because witches are a lot more charming than shrine maidens, at least to an eastern audience. not only that but Reimu is already the main character. Marisa, while being on every game, is more of a secondary character. Maybe ZUN wanted to give her a little more exposure to make up for that.

No vote was held, they were just added, because a famous Tumblr person said "hi i drew u these ^__^" and the admin gobbled that shit right up. There should be no active process on my part to remove something that should not be there in the first place, and at the very least they should accommodate for the large number of people who don't want them, e.g. removing them by default or adding a way to get rid of them that doesn't depend on me adding an exception in my browser or downloading an add-on.

This was written by !WAHa (the guy who wrote Wakaba and translated a bunch of shit) and it's more interesting to read than the entire wiki. Something like this but written by someone who actually has an intimate knowledge of the series, and with dedicated pages for certain comics and characters.

>Is this really THAT bad?

Yes? It kind of undermines the appeal of Touhou for a lot of people when it's on the front page.

The fanon sections are already larger than the canon sections. Imagine if the Reimu page was:

"LOL she's poor!
ARMPITS ftw!
Not a slut like Sanae amirite?"

And all that took up the bulk of the page, with a few lines of "Also, in canon, she's..." below that.

That's effectively how I see the front page. Call me crazy if you want. I'm fine with fan stereotyping, but it's not something that belongs on a factual/reference wiki, and it's not the best first impression for people who aren't all that familiar with Touhou. Those fanon sections are among the worst parts of the wiki and often filled with shit, especially when a character is new. Secondaries care about the lore because they like the stories, nignog. They are in it for the doujins, the remixes and arranges, but also what ZUN himself has written and created. That's part of being secondary, getting into the lore without playing the games themselves, and that's what the wiki is for.

Do primaries read touhou doujins? In the end they are not canon even if author is as close to the character's canon personalities as he can. I guess doujins should be taboo for us.
Do primaries watch cute touhou pics? Canon ZUN's characters looks so different from the ones on fan art. No, we should post only screenshots from the game and random pages from official manga.
Do primaries listen to touhou arrangements? By making techno/metal/jazz/whatever cover fans destroys the original mood of the track (check the in-game music box to see what were ZUN's intentions when he created each track). I guess all touhou music arrangements should be banned as well.
And the last question: what do primaries love and enjoy about touhou?

The answer is much simpler. Autism. Just read this thread, I really don't understand all the hate towards some fairies on the one page the wiki. On the wiki which so called primaries should never even visit since they already know all the canon stuff. Well, you can dislike them, but such minor thing should never generate a 200-post thread. >I HAVE been receiving complaints about the fairies, except it's always in an extremely negative, immature, personal form from someone who really seems to have a grudge against Leo. It's the same attitude I saw when we first started modifying the mainpage years ago. There's a difference between actually making something that works, being constructive and whatnot, sitting around and discussing and collaborating with the rest of the group, and sitting around screaming 'you have to do what ~I~ want, I don't know what that is, but it has to be ~my~ way! Go do it now, and go commit seppuku you big stupid filthy gaizin, lolololz!' And then you have the few people who fall for it, thinking it's a serious complaint and that 'consensus' is 'shifting', when it's solely a couple of little idiots with big mouths trying to rustle people's jimmies. That's why I put my foot down over this. It's an unbelievable waste of what little resources we have here. Momiji (talk) 22:33, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
