You can google up the right temperatures, then have some makeshift way of dropping the boiling water to the right temperature. I checked with a termometer that if I pour 6dl of boiling water to my room-temp cast iron tea pot, the temperature drops to around 82C which is pretty good for green tea.

Then steep the correct amount, depending on tea instructions. Too long will make it bitter, too short will not have bland taste.

Just gotta try a few times I guess.

for green, above 140f but below 170f is the sweetspot for getting all that flavor without any bitterness! once you start getting near 170-180, the tea gets more and more bitter!

i used a thermometer to get used to what temperature my water heater thingy defaults to, so I adjust that, in my case, by plopping a single ice cube in the water before i pour it over the green tea, gets it right to the perfect temp. by default it ends up around the perfect temperature for black teas, but i dont drink many of those!!!!

but different heaters and methods will get your water to different temperatures, so find something reliable and learn your way about it! learning what different temps of water feel like to your fingertip (through the container or not) is a good way to learn without having to break out the thermometer every time and waiting around for it!

some people like really mild flavors, but some people like a slight bitterness to their tea so they might adjust the heat to taste.

>> No.10568380

>>10568345
if you're not sure, get a thermometer!!! a bimetallic one is super cheap and you can find them just about everywhere, you just gotta keep them calibrated. or for a little bit more money you can get an electric one and those normally dont need calibrating frrom what i kno

>> No.10568386

>>10568345
Just get an electronic cooking thermometer if you're really worried about the temp and see how it works. I really don't bother myself and just most of the time make black tea, which has more caffeine anyways.

Boiling happens at a very specific temperature and that's just how it works, half a degree is enough for the process to end.

you can boil some cheap black tea at a high temperature after using a brush or something to get any rust off, and the tea should seal it after you let it sit for a while!

I like my relaxation tea I drink at night sometimes and green tea. I don't drink out of tea cups though. I just have a single plain large mug I use. I'm drinking houji-kukicha. It's different from other teas. A long time ago I noticed after drinking it I noticed I'd feel very drowsy and my veins would become more varicose and I'd feel my pulse very strongly in my head and extremeties. It often makes me fall asleep outright after the third mug.

One day I was looking through the FAQ of the vendor I buy from and while I don't really usually take their marketing fluff very seriously I saw them mention that it contains a chemical called pyrazine due to the roasting of kukicha and they state very plainly that it dilates your blood vessels. Apprarently it's also present in some amount in cigarettes and as a food additive.

I'm not sure if that's something I should be concerned about. It's very relaxing, though.

>>10568512

I'm pretty skeptical of that. I don't use teabags or drink black tea, but when I'm steeping with an infuser and I lift out it and drop it back in I can see a plainly visible cloud of material filling the mug, at least on the first steeping.

Green tea and black tea and such are pretty diverse within themselves; you can look at different kinds of green tea. For cup three, I got annoyed and just let the packet sit in the water for around 10 minutes. Still flavorless.
Also to note, the water itself was darkly colored, so something came out I guess. I used Lipton Black Peal black tea packets. Maybe I should go buy some different ones

Alternatively, tea brews just fine in a "tea tumbler," and you can use a french press as a "tea tumbler" if you happen to have one.

It's not unrelated. The image represents how he feels about his green tea never being the correct temperature.

Municipal water is done with ozone now. At least where I live, here in Boston.

Ozone doesn't taste like chlorine, because it isn't chlorine.

Why do you crossposters always feel the need to call people names? I bet you like to greentext and misuse spoilers as well.

I don't find any taste in Lipton, any of their products seem old and stale.

I for one, use only TWG teas, even though it is pretty expensive where I live (Philippines).

I also sometimes do cold brewing with TWG morning black teas. I place a tea bag on a 16 oz container and fill it with approximately 14 ounces of water. I store it in a cool dark place (either the refridgerator or the side of my bed) for around 12 to 18 hours before I drink it plain or with milk.

I really like this method since it does not bring out the bitterness of black tea, but it still has the full flavor. It goes well with me because I have a cat's tongue.

Oh, I did not see your post. Please do try my method of cold brewing in this post >>10574577 since we both seem to have cat's tongue.

I hope you like the experience the same as I do.

Am I ruining the point of tea by putting sugar in it?

>> No.10576185

>>10575962
for some people they like the cute and fresh and clean taste of tea, and sugar is super heavy so they may not like it! but as long as sugar isnt the primary flavor you're tasting, i think you should be good! nothing wrong with a little bit to round out some teas, but green teas and lighter teas get too easily overpowered by it, but thats just my opinion!

as long as you're happy and not drinking sugarwater instead of tea!!!

personally i dont like it tho...unless its chai, with heavy cream. or bubble or thai teas, but those are more like deserts than an actual drink!!

I love chai with cream too as long as it's the tea itself is very strong so I can actually taste it and the sweetness blends with it instead of overpowering it. Besides that I'll drink my other teas with nothing besides green tea which I like to put a little honey in.

Lately I've been enjoying Hojicha with honey. Really pretty much any tea with a little bit of honey is delicious.

Only if its extremely expensive for no reason, and from Japan. And you better prepare it with ridiculous attention to detail.
