Thanks for cheering for me, currently playing on normal EoSD, this will be my first time, I'm trying not to use bombs unless necessary, can't get over Meiling's first spell card. Stage 4 is going to take me a while. I'm still a beginner, I'll go at my own pace.

How come? They are telling me to go at my own pace, that's what I do, I'm playing on normal because I think that with some work I can handle it. What do you get from bullying like that?

You're supposed to use bombs. Even if you're trying to get better, bombing properly will help you a lot.

I'm one of those folks who play on Easy mode, because A: I'm not that good, B: I don't have that much free time to get better with. Right now PCB is seriously kicking my butt, I've finished IN (both paths all chars), MoF, and SA on easy but PCB I just can't finish, even using all my continues. Someday...

When I was maybe 12 or 13 I was about to play guitar hero for the first time on easy. Then my sister's boyfriend said, "What are you, a 4 year old girl?".

Since then I've never played anything on easy.

Do you guys ever use bombs to lower the health bar of a boss or do you use it just in case you fucked up and are 1 second about to die? Or perhaps you use them if there if you just can't be bothered in learning a certain bullet pattern?
Also, on streaming, you are supposed to let the bullets direct to you so you can easily dodge them right? But I still can't grasp the concept very well and can't put it to use, or are perhaps EoSD and PCB not games were this is used?
I still can't go through stage 3, on the other hand stage 2 feels piss easy, the only spell card of Cirno that actually seem complicated was Icicle Fall but found my way through it.
Is watching a replay of other people acceptable or spoils the fun?

Going through so much trouble at normal when I bet that most at the STG general thread are playing lunatic and playing for high scores just breaks my heart though.

I use bombs on spell cards I know I have trouble on if I'm going for the 1CC. If you're just getting a feel for the game, try not to bomb as much as you can. All spell cards are possible, some you'll find harder than others though.

>Also, on streaming, you are supposed to let the bullets direct to you so you can easily dodge them right? But I still can't grasp the concept very well and can't put it to use, or are perhaps EoSD and PCB not games were this is used?
Some sections of some games either require you to or are made trivial by streaming. Pretty much all of stage 4 PCB comes to mind.
>Is watching a replay of other people acceptable or spoils the fun?
Depends, I've heard both arguments. Do whatever makes you happy.

I watch replays, saves me pain and frustration. I end up beating extras and shit faster and then I can move on to getting better at them.

Saving bombs for when you fuck up is the usual way of using them. They are used for scoring in some games, like MoF and LLS.

I try to learn and capture spell cards because it's satisfying.

I play on easy and pretend to myself that I'm playing on lunatic and there's a lot more bullets on screen, as a group of people cheer on my success.

When I played in normal just for fun without caring about getting into the game, Prismriver sisters took almost all my continues, by stage 5 I didn't had continues left so I've never been on stage 6.

That's what I thought not to use them but by the time I realise it's to use one I'm already dead, I have my index finger at shift for focus so when and I can't move it to the X for bombs in time. My reflexes aren't really that good yet.

How are the people at STG general? I thought about going there but I imagine there are just really good players and as I'm just staring I wouldn't like to interrupt such high level discussion.

>Prismriver sisters took almost all my continues, by stage 5 I didn't had continues left so I've never been on stage 6.
Stage 4 PCB is probably the biggest skill wall to get over. I always recommend that players new to the touhou games start with PCB just for that reason. Once you master stage 4 PCB, you're doing good. It's the first game I 1CC'd too, so maybe I'm a little bit biased. I can't believe it's been almost a year.

>Even Youmu?
Even Youmoe.

The STG general is great, and I also highly recommend asking questions in there that you can't find out with a quick google search. A lot of /jp/sies used to livestream, and they talked about what they were doing as they did it so that was pretty helpful. A lot of them stopped though, for whatever reason.

Whoa man how do you use your index on shift? Are you a contortionist? My index is on x, my middle is on z and pinky with finger next to it on shift. Try to always keep your bomb finger directly on the key, and when you think you're going to be in trouble soon, half press it, if you you can.

The trick to deathbombing is starting to press bomb before you get hit, and expecting to get hit.

As bomb usage goes sometimes it's good to plan bombs on skipping too difficult attacks when playing for survival. For example, you can skip almost any spell in PCB with ReimuB's focused bomb if you use it close to the boss.

Streaming is tapping from a direction into another in a steady pace, used against aimed / pseudo-aimed bullets. Knowing where to stream and when to turn is rather important, though, or you might get walled somewhat easily.

The STG/Touhou general is meant for everyone, not just the very good players, and that is really the case. There are a few people who have played for years, but the threads consist of all of the players within the skill spectrum. You might get insulted at times for posting somewhat small achievements, but the people insulting are usually rather bad in the games. Since most of the good people I've met are rather friendly. They all tend to be odd in their own ways, but there was a time when they were new to shmups as well, they've been where you are as well, and they seem to remember it and be able to give advice varying on the silliness rate of the question.

The amount of livestreaming has lowered lately, but a few people still do stream. And the people who stream aren't all too good. For example, Adamar used to stream himself slowly learning to beat the games on Normal, and people were giving him advice and cheerup instead of shitting on him, which was rather neat in my opinion.

The main thing about clearing the games on any difficulty is to learn suitable rescourse management. You'll have enough lives and bombs to fail every Spell Card in every single Touhou game and still clear, so the main thing is to figure out when you're more likely to die than not and use bombs.

Do some practice. See which attacks usually kill you. Plan a bomb on them at the point the bullets tend to start raining on you too hard, repeat and learn the patterns that are more static or easier to dodge. Enjoy your clear.
