Because nearly everyone and their mother I know owns a cat or two and from what I've experienced I don't think I'd like one. Birds on the other hand would be an entirely new experience for me.

Cats are fun to play with, fun to cuddle with and fun to sleep with. Dogs aren't nearly as soft and flexible as a cat so they are inferior. And they only like playing outdoor games so that's no good.

I want to get a bird or some fish, I'd like a dog but I'd be devastated when it dies so no dog.

If I had a dog I'd probably play with him/her all the time and give it hugs etc. I'd probably be a lot less close to a bird, even if it could cook spaghetti.
