For Single releases around 20 girls are chosen out of all members to perform the title track. For live performances at their theater in Akihabara, they are split into three teams: Team A, Team K, Team B. So Team K will perform for one night and then during the performance they further split into subgroups or solo numbers for some songs. For major concerts at arenas it's all members split into various groups for different songs.

How do they get paid? Since they're separated into teams, is the money generated from concert tickets sells and albums pooled together and divided out evenly or do each team make their profits separately and divided up within the team. If its the second way, do other performers in the other groups get upset if one team is doing better/making more profit than the others?

For singles, management decides who's going take part and it's announced when the single is announced. They're in the PV for the song and they promote it.
There is a yearly single based on an election of members by fans and there is single based around a yearly rock, paper, scissors tournament as well.
