I think you've seen too many movies, hitting someone in the head hard enough make them unconscious with an iron shovel, has a very high chance of them never waking up at all.

In movies, sure, they wake up all the time, in real life, when that shit happens, something called brain hemorrhaging most likely will happen. You would be shocked at the amount of dumbfuck teenagers who think it's no big deal to slam a kids head into the street, or hit him with something heavy in the back of the head, then once their on court for murder be saying "but I wasn't trying to kill them, I had no clue it would kill them".

Why don't you just kidnap one without hitting them? If anything, a hyperdermic syringe with benzos, would be much slower, but safer.

A syringe is kind of clumsy to use on someone unless you manage to restrain them first. I'm not sure how hard it'd be to figure out the right dose for someone of unknown age and body mass.

I think smothering to the point of passing out would be a somewhat safe and reliable method, people should pass out some time before death or brain damage is taking place, and it doesn't involve obtaining potentially incriminating objects like a syringe and drugs.
It'll have its risks, but I imagine they'd be small.
