Flandre is the original Extra Boss on Window Touhou; what later extra bosses are measured by. She was many player's first taste at such a long boss fight in Touhou, and first times are often most memorable.

Cirno's popularity only really kicked off when she immediately came back in the second windows game.

But most importantly, stop judging by what YOU've encountered. And a true fan's worth is how much he or she loves and contributes to the series, not doing nothing but drawing arbitrary divisive lines and complaining about people they don't like.

Only new humans introduced so far are Sanae and Kosuzu. That's two new human characters compared to the dozens of non-human characters that have been introduced in this time. Kosuzu doesn't even appear in the games. Quit bitching.

The only reason people (especially on /jp/) grow to hate popular Touhous is because they're angry and jealous that they get more attention than their favorite Touhou. People never even give good reasons as to why they hate them, it's almost always comes down to the fanbase, which is a stupid fucking reason to grow to hate any character anyway. Regardless of how retarded Flans fanbase seems to me, I am nothing more than indifferent to her.

I have no qualms with Flandre herself. She doesn't particularly interest me, but I don't dislike the character itself.
Her depictions in doujin works and her fandom absolutely aggravate me however. Nine times out of ten she's:
A) A selfish, childish, irresponsible, obnoxious, semi-autistic little cuntbag and attention whore that always gets away with whatever dumb shit she pulls. At least Remilia gets her just desserts whenever she's depicted as such.
B) An unstoppable psycho killing machine that can kill everyone and everything in the universe ever.
C) A 'misunderstood, pure, innocent' Mary Sue that supposedly is far more reasonable, mature and intelligent than she's believed to be (and should be).
I basically loath all Sue depictions of her (which are unfortunately very common in this fandom), and I can understand others would hate the character herself due to these exaggerated depictions and her fans.
