The Japanese have some baka strange movies. /jp/ can be strange sometimes too. Strange Japanese movies are crazy, tacky, and just plain out there, but ultimately if you look at them in their entirety they have deep meaningful messages that reflect on their society, just like how things on /jp/ have something meaningful going on too...kind of.

Hopefully you'll post the strangest Japanese movies out there. Here is the trailer to the movie based off the manga Shameless School.

"The Crazy Family" (逆噴射家族)

It's supposed to be a comedy movie, but I found it rather irritating.

Fun fact: The German title is "Die Familie mit dem umgekehrten Düsenantrieb", meaning "The family with the inverse jet engine".

>> No.10308217

>>10308165
Well, I found the remake to have a feeling of being out of place. The story is kind of a very Japanese one with it's themes of loyalty and aesthetic form of love Japan has. I can't say that the remake was bad, but it seemed slower and so much more mellow dramatic. I liked the Japanese one better, but you also have to know that I am pretty bias in some ways when talking about American remakes of Japanese movies too. You can take it as you want in the end I suppose.

It's not funny.
It really isn't really all that entertaining.
And I was able to find barely an ounce of Japanese film reflection in it. Which means it's pretty bad one all together. But what can I say? I'm so into Chiaki Kuriyama that I'd pretty much watch anything of her work. Does anyone know if I could find and meet her in Tokyo and become friends with her?

I think you'll like it /jp/, it'll satisfy your misogyny for quite a bit.
You'll also feel really weird, specially when each of them are sort of right in their own way.
But ultimately, you will probably feel like going out to a far away place, live in a lighthouse and just die.
Music is also by Joe Hisaishi so if you like him, well, who doesn't, you should definitely watch this movie.
If someone can stream it, I'd watch it with you guys.

Electric Dragon 80.000 V is also amazing, and somewhat fits this thread, as is Crazy Thunder Road.

Also, I'm surprised no-one mentioned Tetsuo but I guess it's a given.

My contribution would be Picnic, it's not really that crazy but it's still pretty strange & interesting.

Electric Dragon 80,000 V has a sequel. It's Cyber Punk like you mentioned/compared to Burst City. I have no idea why the sequel hasn't been released to the West yet. It aired on Hawaii-TV-Japan station in Hawaii though. I once tried buying the Electric Dragon 80,000 V Figures in their unopened tins, but they were over $500 each. They got bought too. Who has money like that anyway?

>>10310549

I wasn't really comparing it to Burst City, they're just both directed by Sogo Ishii. I'd say Crazy Thunder Road is closer to Burst City. Also, I can't find anything on the Internet about a sequel, and if there is one it's definitely not by Ishii, so I'm not that interested.

>DEAD END RUN
Dead End Drive - 2003 - Color - Anamorphic Widescreen - Trailers

>Cult filmmaker Sogo Ishii's follow-up to his spectacular "Electric Dragon 80,000 V"
consists of three short films. Continuing on the road he had taken, Ishii throws
every trick in the book at us; rapid cuts, bouncing cameras, fast close-ups, wacky
angles, vibrating zooms, and quick dissolves turn out a triumphant display of
knockout visuals. All three stories deal with a "running man" who ends up in a
dead-end alley. In the first part, a man is pursued by a woman who turns out to be
"more than human." Part two stars Masatoshi Nagase ("Electric Dragon 80,000 V,"
"Party 7") as the man who is driven into the dead-end alley by a hitman. In part
three, Tadanobu Asano (also from "Electric Dragon 80,000 V," "Party 7") is chased
by the police, and ends up on a rooftop where he kidnaps a woman who was
there to commit suicide. As usual, Ishii's technique combines breathless action
scenes with the hard-edged feel of the experimental film.
