You know how everyone is always talking about how 'ironic shitposting' is going to attract actual retards who will feel right at home? That has actually happened a long time ago.

This place is filled with genuine /v/tards and the vast majority of retarded posts and images are 100% serious.

Almost every time you reverse search an image on the archive you see it posted on /a/, /vg/ and /v/ and other horrible boards; /jp/ is FULL of such people.

I love Linus. Cudder-san posted this on /prog/ today:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2012/12/23/75

If Theo de Raadt or Richard Stallman said something like this, everyone would get bitter and upset. But because it's Linus-sama, it's hilarious.

>> No.10285739

Supposed moderation* aside, 4chan is just a public free scribble wall on the internet, as are most places that display user-submitted content. Even wikipedia, which tries to be so serious.

*(most of which is either overtly personal, overtly self-interested or overtly hostile to the board topics... yeah, fuck it basically. At least it's less dishonest and destructive than facebook, but it's still worthless.)

I'm starting to think elitism is overrated. I lurked /tg/ the other day and some of the best threads were stupid/newbie ones. "hi guys whats the difference between pathfinder and DnD???" actually turned into an interesting discussion chock-full of helpful advice and as worthwhile contributions as you can get for that sort of thread.

I wish we were like that.

This mindset is what killed /jp/. People deluding themselves into thinking that just because a thread is off topic, that it's alright to unload your entire frustration about life into it.

Good things about /jp/:
* (mostly) proper sage usage
* prose instead of greentext
* lower image macro/reaction image rate

Bad things about /jp/:
* ironic shitposting
* taking the good things too far ("How dare you use a so-called meme on 4chan!")
* lack of topics

That last one is a particular problem. Whenever I visit some other site, I see a piece of news about a new doujin game or a cool website or whatever, but /jp/ never discusses them. Sometimes I'll search to see if we've discussed a big thing that has happened months after the fact, and nobody has.
We need more people to search relevant sources for fresh content. Doujin releases, new translations, (re)discovering old gems, that sort of thing. I suck at it and just keep stumbling across things accidentally.

I'm pretty good at searching and I have my own share of succesful threads about topics that go from obscure doujin games to Touhou. I think I could try making some threads, we could even talk about some old games, but what makes me not do it might be what makes people afraid of making these kind of threads on /jp/: Complete lack of interest in those topics.

Yeah, man, gotta keep using that site "content."

Fuckin' pathetic.

And no, don't voluntarily go to some kind of trouble to give mootles any real content, the guy is a crooked fuck and considers it all temporary throwaway content except for maybe the "meme"-level shit anyway.

I'm not saying we should spam /b/ catchphrases every post, it's just that a lot of people here seem very bittered by the fact that 4chan has in-jokes. Why do you even put scare quotes around the word meme? Is it because Reddit uses memes? Does that mean we can't have memes any more?

>>10285845
You should at least try. Maybe repost it. I found that Asenheim thing not too long ago and there had been maybe two or three posts about it, so I made a couple of threads. Only a small handful of people cared, but I guess there's not much to discuss beyond, "Oh I liked that game years ago now I can play it again thank you for this link."

Now, here's the kicker - we used to. Back in 2009 or so. "Every thread must be replied to" - and threads were being replied to, all of them.

But guess what, everything has its limits. Attempting to salvage a 10000th "whch 2hu wud fug" thread is just not going to work. Just because people stopped exerting any effort in shitty threads doesn't mean /jp/ turned more or less elitist. It has just adapted to the new reality, where the average shitpost is, literally, "*fart*". By that point, giving them any attention is just a disservice to everyone involved.

Want people making enjoyable silly threads? Find enjoyable shitposters. Not the sad autistic spammers that we're getting now.
