Any PC otaku here?

I was thinking about upgrading to a gtx 660 but I need to make a few sacrifices due to budget reasons. Either I upgrade to a fx-6200 cpu+new mobo and get the gtx 660 or I upgrade to an i5-3570k+new more expensive mobo and keep my old hd 7770 card. The latter will be the "cheaper" upgrade but I only get to upgrade the cpu. I'm currently using an old Athlon ll x3 455 which, even when overclocked, bottlenecks the 7770 like hell and runs poorly on modern, cpu intensive applications. As you can tell I really need a cpu upgrade and I am considering the fx-6200 as the budget alternative to the i5 but I'm not sure if I'll just end up regretting the fx-6200.

Please give your opinions.

The fx-6200/mobo bundle plus the gtx 660 is kind of pushing the limits but preferably under $500 total, including taxes.

Why do you need new hardware? A 7770 is plenty for anything short of virtualization.

If you're using this to play video games, you're a fucking idiot for even buying this much. If you're using this for virtualization or professional rendering, you are a fucking idiot for putting your normie ass in a hikki zone.

If it has at least 1 USB port, over a gigabyte of RAM and an x86-64 compliant processor, it's probably good.

I can run Crysis 2 with mods on my toaster, I laugh at all of you plebians who buy computers parts.

consumer-grade octo-core CPUs are cheap now, which is cool

actually not as good as a high-end hexacore in net processing power, but eight independent cores is just cool to have for bragging and multithreading

The first time I bought all the parts for my computer I was absolutely terrified. I had this huge irrational anxiety that something would go wrong and I'd brick everything and not get refunded. It went okay though.

I convinced my parents they needed a new PC, so I used the superfluous budget they gave me to build a whole new computer and gave them my old one with a new SSD and Windows 7 installed.
They loved it.

My mom buys like eight new laptops per year. I'm not kidding either. And not good laptops, but the first piece of shit that jumps at her eye. There's several dozen shitty HP ~EXCELMASTER_CUMSHOT[LEGIT]-WORKDOMINATOR~ laptops in her house. Tons of Apple products too.

Well I do think the 7770 can manage, but I really do need a better cpu, so it really all just boils down to i5 vs fx-6200. Obviously the i5 wins in performance and even in performance/$ but whether I would actually utilize its full potential is what bugs me. Maybe I won't today but what about 2-3 years down the road?

What do you need a better CPU for? What is your current CPU? What program are your current CPU's performance inhibiting?

My sister goes through at least 3 or 4 cellphones a year. She always drops them, loses them, or gives them to hobos when she gets scared and thinks she's being mugged. Worst part is that she always takes mine without asking because I "never use it"

i5 is better and should set you for a good several years without having to upgrade.

I still have a 5770 and am struggling to find anything which I cannot run comfortably...

What the hell are you guys running that you need the tip-toppest hardware? Are you trying to win at Furmark or something?

I need to run all my shit at least 1080p maxed out at 60+ fps. You're probably comfort at 20 fps with medium low graphics.
