Hey /jp/ I'll bet you five bucks that ZUN makes a Jesuit Touhou, throwing Catholicism into Gensokyo's impending shitstorm of religious conflict.

I was playing Civilization 5 the other day, and I chose Shinto as my religion, in honor of the Shrine Maiden in red.

No one wanted by religion, even in my own country I had trouble spreading it out. When I tried spreading to other civs, I got constant bullshit complaints, which led to 3 wars and my fucking demise.

Fuck you Reimu. And fuck you Shintoists.

The Japanese had crosses before Christianity was introduced. They used to crucify people too.

And anyway all Christians use the cross as a symbol, not just Catholics.

>>10250236
Eh I'm pretty sure that Mongolians maintained their own Shamanistic beliefs similar to Shinto but completely distinct from it. And I guess they probably adopted elements of Buddhism and Taoism from the Chinese at some point.

Wikipedia says that Japanese Catholics consider him a saint but it doesn't say if the Vatican has even beautified him yet.

I thought that martyrs were automatically beautified though. If his rebellion were to fight against religious repression wouldn't that make him a martyr?

Maybe they're just taking forever like they did with Joan of Arc. Everyone knew that she was a saint but the Vatican didn't get around to canonizing her for like 500 years.

Yup. It's the crucifix, or other images of God, which is disputed.

Some Orthodox Catholics consider this guy a saint and he's not been canonized yet either.

Hey do Buddhists have any sort of canonization process for their saints?

>> No.10250675

Sainthood in Orthodoxy does not work the same way. A person is known to be a saint through the veneration that comes from the people. The Church recognizing a person as a saint is only a stamp of approval, so to speak, that gives assurance from God about the saint in question. There is also no progression of sainthood like in Catholicism (servant of God, venerable, blessed, saint).

I bet if the entirety of human village converts to either atheism or solipsism, Gensoukyou would collapse.

That's originally how it worked with Roman Catholicism too. The Vatican must have adopted the multi-step canonization process after the Orthodox/Roman split.

Yeah, in my opinion the Orthodox Church has a much clearer connection to the early church through its traditions. Biblically I tend to think Calvinism is the most accurate interpretation, though.

Hmmm, that's pretty neat. I didn't know that.
Christianity has a pretty interesting history in Japan, wish ZUN would look into it more game-wise.

Some of my distant relatives were missionaries in Japan. The only one still alive grew up in Japan in the 1930's and learned Japanese before English. Funny for a white kid. Eventually they moved back to the states and he learned English back here and was a big time translator during WWII.

I think it's neat that he still talks in the much older, formal, and more polite Japanese. Japanese folk are real respectful of him and he always schools my ass in the language.
At first I thought I was the first member of my family to learn an East-Asian language, but nope. He kicked my ass pretty hard in it when I found out.
