I'm going to go through all the problems I have with the situations in these pictures, from left to right, top to bottom (suck it, weeaboos).

1. Sand in hair/clothing and it must be uncomfortable having an entire person on your body like that.
2. Those look like women drinks and there's far too much ice.
3. That man should be out with his friends instead of staying at home.
4. Those women should be staying at home instead of out with their friends.
5. Cancer.
6. You can't just quit being in a boat. You have to ride the boat home. What if it rains?
7. Too much make-up. I bet those women didn't even want to wear that much make-up, they felt pressured to.
8. Too lewd legs and too much alcohol. I don't see why getting plastered and being sick is the mark of a "good night out". We've had alcohol for thousands of years, and our ancestors weren't stupid enough to poison themselves with it.

Why does western culture only seem to be interested in the shittiest and most boring drugs that exist?

We have a long and interesting history with alcohol and tobacco and a whole culture developed around them, but I really don't see why we bothered. It really can't get much more bland than alcohol and tobacco. It's the bottom tier of drug use. If you're going to risk your health for a drug then you might as well take something that isn't complete shit.

Hell, I don't even know if tobacco does anything. I've smoked cigarettes on a few occasions and I felt absolutely nothing. Part of me wonders if the effects of the drug are so subtle that it's not much more than a placebo effect, kind of like those nootropic drugs that do absolutely nothing.

The innovations and progress of the western world is fueled by a dissatisfaction with life and a general unhappiness that everyone feels. Feeling like shit compels us to try to make things on the off-chance that we will invent something that will make us happy.

Look at the native tribes of South America that still exist today. They're tripping out on psychedelics several times a week, communicating with the forest or whatever, and they have not felt the need to advance at all in hundreds of years.

Look at Afghanistan. They are sitting on a goldmine of oil and precious minerals, but they don't give a fuck. They've known about it for a very long time and they can't be bothered to extract any of it. They just want to grow their poppies and smoke their opium.

Western society will probably invent space travel and head out into the stars. Not because they were happy with their life, but because they were so unhappy that it seemed like a good idea. If you're already happy then you won't bother with those sorts of advancements. Happy cultures don't make a lot of progress.

This, it's sad. As we progress it only gets harder and harder. Technology in particular is ruining our lives. Children are punished and given drugs because they committed the sin of being distracted by television and the internet, and adults are doing unpaid work from their computers and phones.

Western civilization has been declining for as long as it has existed though. Sure, our technology and our power advances more and more, but our happiness continues to make a steady decline.

The western world is in a state now where a good portion of the population needs to be doped up on antidepressants just to keep them passive enough that they won't try to blow their brains out or jumping off a roof, yet our living conditions and technology is better than ever.

It's the technology and the price that we have to pay to maintain this technology that causes such a huge degree of unhappiness. We're advanced, but to maintain these advancements we need a workforce that is filled with people who do completely mindless work that has no meaning to them (cleaning the trash, maintaining the electricity, packing boxes, data entry, etc)

The incentive for doing this drone work is that they can use their paycheck to buy some shiny gadget and have a few hours of hollow escapism. It's really not that great of an incentive and that's why so many people are unhappy. Life is just bleak when the only thing you have to look forward to is getting drunk, staring at an ipad app, or watching some movie.

This is nothing new though. When the European colonists were first settling in the Americas many of their citizens would actually run away from the European settlements and join the Indians. The appeal of living that simple and free life was so strong that they were gladly throwing away all of the modern technology of that time period so that they could be with the natives and live a happier life.
