So with Ourai coming out in 4 days, I was wondering if you need to play the previous games in What A Beautiful Series in order to understand the story in Ourai? Normally I'm not very interested in Liar Soft games (except Sharnoth) but Tesla as the main character is a tempting setting.

Playing G-senjou no Maou at the moment. I'm >>10227171 and as expected, after just finishing Kanon's route, it just doesn't compare, save for a few moments. The way Maou got written out was a bit silly (though necessary) as well.

It's okay. A good lot of spin offs and other stuff if you manage to get into fandom, though I wouldn't recommend it unless you're into magical battles and chuuni already and the first route really manages to turn many people off.

I love reading huge wall of text about various settings and shit but I personally felt that FSN didn't explore it that well.
Or rather it explored it on a pretty small scale, namely the grail war and the rules/whatever around it.
HF actually got out of these bound a bit which is one of the reason I liked this route the most (it's also better for a lot more reason including the fact that the writing is a lot more focused and nice to read in it, it kind of feel like Nasu only really cared for that route honestly).

I agree that production-value wise it's one of the better games in that time. For that matter perhaps you can say it's one of the better games in the early 00s. Tokimemo Memorial 2. Akane, Homura, and Mei cleared.

It's hard to say why I feel this game curbstomps Amagami forever, when there's less dialogue and far more repetition. I'm not even nostalg'ing--I don't play "old games," but I'm having more fun with this than any game in recent memory.

Sometimes I feel like I should be irritated, like how the midgame feels like playing minesweeper, how girls you hate will agree to go to places they hate, then hate you for it, or how the "hardest boss fight" is watching flaming chickens pelt you for three years. But it somehow all ends up being enjoyable.

I just can't stop smiling. Maybe it's because it's a short game without a lot to say, but I've felt less rewarded at the end of entire VN routes than by a smile and a single line from Homura. <s>"...This really is the best Christmas ever."</s>

I started Tsujidou, it feels a lot better than Majikoi, but I'm going to have to get this Tokimemo out of my system first. Maybe three more playthroughs.

Finally started reading さよならを教えて. Was expecting to read about fifteen minutes or so before I went to bed, turns out I've been reading for a full two hours before I even realized it. What an incredibly engrossing atmosphere, making me feel ill at ease from the first few minutes. The crumbling of Hitomi's psyche is an ideal case of morbid fascination - you don't want to see where it takes you, but you can't help but read on in horror. Brilliantly chilling stuff.

Can't quite pin Mitsuki at this point, but I imagine she knows far more about what's going on than she's letting on. Either that or it's all in Hitomi's head, which is still fairly plausible.

Finished Marie's route in Dies Irae.

Playing this made me once again remember how important music is when delivering the mood. Many of the battles felt somehow lifeless without all the new BGMs from Kei's route. I especially missed the three "Einherjar" tracks.

Well I'm back after reading a few more trials during the last few days

窓辺の天使 first since I posted about it in the last thread.
Overall the trial was interesting, the mood and production values are quite nice and I personally like the art.
The story is about the protagonist who suffer from disease and doesn't have much time to live, to spend his remaining time he decides to go in a hospice in Italy where children with similar circumstances reside.
The trial itself isn't too long but the cast is quite huge already, the text isn't anything fancy but it's clear and flow well.
I also liked the magic tricks of the protagonist that give a good twist to his character and offer some interesting scenes.
The second half of the trial showed the first hints of a big mystery and shit hitting the fan but nothing concrete yet by the end.

Anyways my main problem would be the shortness of the whole thing, the trial was supposedly half of episode 1 (the only episode available so far) yet was still in build-up mode, episode 1 itself is only supposed to be around 200kb and it's really not much.
So maybe it would be better to wait till more episodes are released to see if it ends up taking an interesting shape.
So wait and see for now.

Second title I did is レウキア滞在記.
This one is really interesting.
The story takes place in a fantasy world, a few years after the war between 2 countries.
The protagonist come from the aggressor (and winner) country to take part in a study of the loser country, Leukia.
I'm about 3 hours in, but so far it's really engrossing and focus on some very interesting themes.
Politic, the relationship between 2 countries that used to be at war and the clash of culture, the intracity of diplomacy and office stuff in general, economy, the juridical system, etc...
All these things are the focus on レウキア滞在記 and it does it pretty well.
The writing itself is really solid, compared to
窓辺の天使 for example the writing has more meat
And despite the subject matter it never felt heavy so far.

Anyways really nice read for a title that is quite different compared to your usual eroge,

Anyways last title presented would be エルフの守護者
This one is a pure slg but the quality is quite astounding, especially compared to most slg I did this year.
Story is a bit similar to Utawarerumono of all thing, protag wake up with amnesia, see that the elves are persecuted and due to a prophecy kind of thing he ends up leading them.
This story is actually kind of interesting and the plot has some twist and turn, at the very least it's not just an excuse for conquest and sex.

The gameplay is typical slg but with more depth than you would think.
Overall recommended for anyone who want a good gameplay title, this game itself has been getting quite a bit a fame in Japan this past week.

It's rather good.

There is a feeling of genre shift of sorts, the first half is your typical comedy moege, and then it gets really serious for the latter.

The drama itself is very well executed, especially the final route. Main issue I had is that the ending is very abrupt, which is why I want the FD (for some actual closure).
Another issue, without giving too much away is that it does not actually give the best impression of parents in Japan, and this felt a bit overdone.

Overall, it is pretty short, about ~10 hours or so. Best to check it out and form your own opinion on it. I personally enjoyed it.

If you need the ISO, it's up on PD, or alternatively you can also find some ddl links on anime-sharing like I did.

Finished my first route of this last night (Mahiru's, per route order of a walkthrough I found), and I'm curious about something.

<s>Did Mahiru even exist, as a girl? I'm caught between two scenarios. The first is that she did actually exist when Hitomi was younger, as he went so far as to name that first cat after her. He must have had some degree of affection for that younger girl who wanted to be his bride. Towards the route's end when his sister and the nurse were discussing Hitomi's cruelty as a child, they touched upon him harming insects and cats, not killing someone. </s>

Finished reading Yumiko's route in Kajitsu. While overall I preferred Makina's (only other one I've read so far), I still found it enjoyable and worth reading. Found her actual ending to be stronger than Makina's, too.

Gonna start up Sachi's tomorrow, I look forward to lots of d'aww.

Writing seems solid as usual, the trial only shows the prologue and doesn't last but already get the ball rolling.
