I think this thread also has quite a lot of lurkers, and not everyone has an oshi in general. For purpose of popularity, I suppose image frequency would be one of the best indicators. I think Yuko, Mayu and Rena are very popular here, Yukirin was also in the earlier threads but not so much lately.

I myself don't really have an oshi across groups, but within groups:

AKBingo is probably the most hilarious thing I've seen in my life, can't remember when a TV show made me laugh that often and hard the last time. Some of the things they do to the girls are awfully cruel though, almost seems like bullying.

Anybody who enjoys AKBINGO for how cruel they are to the girls should really watch all of the Utaban episodes with Morning Musume and their sub groups from around 98-04, it's one of the funniest things I've seen on Japanese TV. I watched the original run but I think most of them eventually got subbed?

Akimoto was a producer on Utaban so I wouldn't be surprised if AKBINGO was mostly inspired by how harsh Utaban treated their idol guests.

Do I want her to stay? Yes. I really like Chiyuu, always have, and 12th place in sousenkyo means a lot. I think she's one of the prettiest AKBs, her voice is super sweet to my ears, and I was delighted to hear of her solo debut.

Do I feel sad and wish she didn't announce this? Not really. We got talented girls coming in at a faster rate than we have old girls going out. I want, for example, Hirarii and Yukarun in teams. I know I can't have my cake and eat it too, and change kind of needs to happen for AKB not to stagnate.

Also, this should shut up the people who bash Aki-P for not punishing her for the Ougon fiasco, though it feels a bit disproportionate if you think about it that way.

Eh, wota haven't been very supportive of her decision, at least not on 2ch, and the general consensus seems to be that it was a huge dick move on her part. Obviously her more hardcore fans are more forgiving but that's to be expected.

Anyway, I liked Kasai somewhat but I'm not surprised by this development at all. It almost seems like she had planned to leave already and the way in which she's done it is kind of callous, albeit not anywhere near the same level as Yuka. I have to wonder if she chose to do this for maximum publicity before leaving. If this is the case, it's definitely a miscalculation on her part since although some people claim that all publicity is good publicity, there can be exceptions to this rule and this is one of them.

There's this thing called make up, where women put weird chemical substances on their face. It seems you've never witnessed its wonders.

Beauty is basically just fortunate bone structure (mostly face symmetry), well-applied make-up and a sense of style. For idols having the right expressions and being skinny, which for example would be the biggest change besides dentist for Shinoda, also helps a lot.

Surgery, besides fixing their teeth for some, isn't necessary for the level of change you see with these girls. They probably aren't straight out of Weekly Playboy when they wake up in the morning, either.

It's mostly just makeup and having a good haircut, because of the stage show not many girls have had enough time off to have anything done. The only really obvious one was Umeda and she out for months. I'm convinced Tomo never actually had her eyes done and just started using eyelid glue every day.

I think people who say she's going to graduate soon shouldn't be taken seriously. They probably don't know her that well.

If I'd have to guess she's probably going to leave when she gets physically just too old (injures herself and has trouble healing or something) or when the 2nd chapter of AKB actually steps up and breaks into kami ranks, and she feels they're worth making space for.

I've been watching UZA's and Gingham Check's PVs with more thought today. I think Joseph Khan did an ok job with both of the videos. There would've been a lot room for improvement though. I feel like neither of those PVs don't really have a storyline. They are just different clips put together with some dancing. That might work with solo artists but AKB has so many girls that the videos are too confusing and I can't really keep up with what's happening.

AKB's PVs had a storyline most of the time year or two ago. Ex. Iiwake maybe, Oogoe diamond. Though it wasn't anything super special it was still better than clips of girls dancing in different outfits just put together. Now NMB has the more storytype PVs. In my opinion NMB PVs have been the best this year aswell. HA! is an awesome song too btw.

I love the story videos, but UZA was a breath of fresh air, and I don't think it's fair to call a video like that simpler than the drama versions of older singles.

UZA was very expressionistic. It used a lot of symbolic and atmospheric signets to get its meaning across, which I think can be interpreted in a few ways, but one was certainly a feminist idea about women breaking free of patriarchal entanglement in different ways. This is portrayed in the video by women as jack-in-the-box, puppets on strings, encased in glass, robotic in nature and in general... pretty upset about the state of things.

It is important to note, however, that the women are STILL beautiful in the video. Just not happy.

I don't think I'm pulling this out of my ass. It really does seem to me what the director was intending with this PV, and I think that is a HELL of a lot deeper than some dopey soap opera thing, even those are super fun, too, and have worked very well in the past.

This is the reason why she is still with AKB, but is slowly falling in rank and popularity.
