I have a question concerning buyfaggotry.
I was discussing with a friend, about buying a character figure without actually playing the game. This friend collects characters from a game that never actually played or like much at all, just for the sake of having a beautiful figure, only caring about the sculp and how it looks at all.
In my opinion, this is ridiculous. I want to hear /jp/'s opinion on that.

Personally, I disdain having too many personal effects as needless clutter. I would only go as far as wall-hangings for decoration.

Such a hobby is fine if carried out in a seeking of greater aesthetic experience, but to compulsively buy in a passionless consumerist impulse is disgusting-- not only in the way it deludes the buyer with promises of false happiness and is a financial waste, but also in the way these productive resources could be better used.

I don't know. If your main interests is figs, what's the problem with buying any fig you like?
I think that knowing about the character and loving her makes part of the experience and the satisfaction with buying a really nice fig, but everyone is different.

It's like buying an artbook of an anime you've never seen. The artwork style is there, it's represented and whatever other things that are conveyed exists(its world settings, genre, attitude, etc.). They're enough reason alone to purchase it.

Doesn't matter what the fuck you think though, it's not a fact. Stop forcing your views into others you bitch and learn to view things objectively.

Or maybe you're too stupid to be able to do that.

Allow me to reciprocate with text of my own creation in accord to the ideological wagering which you have just fabricated and consequently presented in the not too distant past. But rather than the bulk of your statement let me instead direct my response to your prosaic mark, in saying that the syntactical manner in which you piece together your building blocks of language which we call "words" is downright detestable, and I find myself with a great aversion to your aforementioned post.

In short, shut the fuck up, you're annoying as shit.

This. I only have a couple figures from media that has meant a lot me, but I'd certainly consider getting a figure I know nothing about if there was something particularly special about it. There needs to be some kind of emotional connection to your stuff, and even collectors have a particular theme or interest. That connection CAN come from just the draw of the figure itself, but I'd say that's pretty rare.

Personally, I took 8 AP classes in a private school for practice on this, and keep myself jacked on strattera and adderall.

I do agree with you that OP's friend hasn't done anything wrong, I would still probably find the kind of habit that OP describes as annoying if paired with a certain kind of attitude.

Even if it's the figure that strikes your attention first, doing a bit of research around the things that you spend money on can be informative, interesting and even a bit educational. But that's details, more or less. And behavior like that can't be forced, or it doesn't serve any purpose. It's just a matter of character and preferences, even if I'm personally not sure if I want to be friends with someone who doesn't enjoy seeing the whole picture.

Do you mean 8 at once, or accumulatively? Because at my school, I could only take 4 AP classes at once (i.e. my core classes), with taking AP art being the sole exception to this rule. AP art could go eat a dick though, the teacher was a major loon.

This friend is a complete casual when it comes to enjoy the whole picture of the characters collected, I tried to show my view, which is not spliffing money (especially in the country we live at) in some figure just because it's pretty, because there is a rich story behind every character, this friend said I'm jealous, so I decided to not argue anymore.

I took 9 in two years- 4 one year and 5 the next, but didn't take the test for AP Java in the latter because my teacher didn't know what he was doing, so I didn't get enough under my belt at the time.

>> No.10204778

I can somehow relate. I often listen to great songs/soundtracks or watch awesome openings of anime series or visual novels that I haven't yet seen/read/played.

Some Touhou (never beat a single game and his favourite character is Flandre.. I won't judge tastes but Flandre is pretty entrylevel), Gintama stuff (never watched/read more than 10 eps, I believe) and some Vocaloid stuff (decided to throw the argument that he should destroy his Vocaloid figs because OH MY GOD VOCALOIDS HAVE NO ANIME/MANGA OR STORY AT ALL BEHIND IT) and more stuff I don't really know.
I will become buddah at some point of my life.

He has to author his own path alone, misguided as it may seem. So long as he isn't causing himself acute or direct harm, you really shouldn't intervene.

It sounds to me like he's really attempting to find acceptance among niche audiences.

Also, Black Rock Shooter is technically Vocaloid, even if it's like some 'Original Character Donut Steel' fanfic of Miku.
