I have made some progress with my M3-30 downloads this weekend, here's my thoughts.

[Sketch Up! Recordings] JP-HD#02
Standard UK Hardcore/Hard House/Trance album, nothing spectacular but good if you like that sort of thing
Sampler: http://soundcloud.com/sketchup_recordings/jp-h-d-02-crossfade-suhd-002

[Cubegrams] SUPER AURA:
Great Progressive Trance album, some really nice tracks from some quality producers. Very pleased after the somewhat disappointing NOT 4 on the FLOOR (which would have been great if there was no brostep on it)
Sampler: http://soundcloud.com/chankodiving/super-aura-crossfade-demo

[Massive New Krew] Massive Circlez 2:
I'm not a huge fan of Hardstyle but I really liked this, USAO canes it as always and the rest of the album is also good. If you don't like Hardstyle, I wouldn't bother. It might be a nice album to get into Hardstyle though.
Sampler: http://soundcloud.com/massive-new-krew/ms2-crossfade-demo

[Altanaphixx] Lovestract:
3rd solo album from .fmy. Nice Trance/House stuff. Slightly long for my likely without enough variety to keep it interesting though, but good.
Sampler: http://soundcloud.com/fmy238/lovestract-xfade

[不可逆ハードコア] 匪天:
UK Hardcore/Hard Trance album. Was expecting something harder based on the label but I really liked it. Skirts brostep territory once or twice but it can be ignored
Sampler: http://soundcloud.com/hukagyaku-hardcore/m3-1

[Illegal Wave Records] Our Lost Ones:
Hardcore album, short enough to an Ep really. Good if you like harder EDM.
Sampler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hxsFzZQTe4

I sort of want to listen to [Kusemono Records] BASSCORE since I heard it's got D&B on it but it's mainly brostep and I don't want to have to sit through to get to what I bet is probably some mediocre Jump-Up esque D&B tracks. So instead I spent the evening listening to Jungle remixes of Top Cat, General Levy, Cutty Ranks and Posion Chang.

[Psycho Filth Records] The Psycho Filth Vol 6 Distorted Desire:
Really good Hardcore/Speedocre/Gabber album. Definitely recommended for harder EDM fans, top quality like all Psycho Filth Releases.
Sampler: http://soundcloud.com/filthy-666/the-psycho-filth-vol6

I managed to also find [PFEX-001] The Distorted Zoo after nearly two years so that's good as well I guess.

Most of Not 4 on the Floor was D&B apart from Irus and maybe Shaman Cure-All's tracks, almost no hardcore on it; the site for it even says NO 4/4 KICKS, NO TEMPLATE, NO PROBLEM (P*Light's track is basically Netsky and much like him he uses those annoying synths but it's more tolerable). If the Kenta-V.ez and Noizenecio didn't use Brostep/US Electro-house synths, I would have liked it much more. That's all I meant by it.

dnb is arguably part of the hardcore genre. nothing about hardcore implies 4/4 last I checked, but half of the album is 4/4 anyway.

genki - hardcore
p*light - bbhc
lv.4 - bbhc/trance
kenta - dubstep/electro-house
irus - psytrance
suge - dnb
noizenecio - electro-house i guess?
cure-all - dnb/random shit

it depends who you ask, but afaik that's pretty much all heavily related to electronic hardcore.

i just don't appreciate how people use the apparently derogatory term "brostep" to refer to any techno/bass saws they don't like. it's usually not "step" at all, it implies all dubstep music is inherently bad (or even includes those synths at all), and for those reasons it's disrespectful to people who do enjoy music featuring such sounds.

but hey i'm in the minority so do whatever you want.

I'm going to argue here just for the sake of it, don;t think I have anything against you anything bro. And yes that album is mainly 4/4, I don't know why they called it what they did.

My track by track genre breakdown of N4ttF would go:

01 Drum & Bass
02 Drum & Bass/Drumstep in small parts where they use the electro-house synths
03 Drum & Bass, closer to Liquid Funk but a bit too hard
04 Brostep, can't call this anything else
05 Psytrance
06 Drum & Bass, uses drums patterns very similar to Darkstep but the bass and synths are a bit softer than Darkstep
07 Brostep/electro-house
08 Sounds kind of IDM-like (very vaugely in the beginning) and then goes Hardcore at the very end

As for calling the P*Light and LV.4 tracks on there Breakbeat Hardcore (I assume that's what bbhc stands for), I can't let that slide, it sounds nothing like that. This is Breakbeat Hardcore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmT7DgjOD8Q.. To my knowledge, this is the only Doujin produced Breakbeat Hardcore that isn't DJ Shimamura (who is godlike by the way): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URJn-PedUO0

>> No.10096605

>>10096603

As for Drum & Bass being under the umbrella term of Hardcore, I disagree somewhat. I agree it developed out of Jungle which itself developed from Breakbeat Hardcore, and in 91/92 that was just called Hardcore by people making it in the UK, but all three genres are classed under Breaks (named after the use of Amen Break which heavily features in all of them). From Breakbeat Hardcore, Jungle and Happy Hardcore splintered off, and Happy Hardcore became UK Hardcore. How Hardcore (meaning Masters of Hardcore/Enzyme etc.) developed in Europe, I'm not certain, it's probably a derivative from harder forms of Euro House which must have comes from US House or Techno.

I use the term brostep a bit too much since I'm quick to dislike that typical synth sound as it;s infiltrated far too many of the artists I like (like DJ Fresh, how can he go from making godly Techstep in Bad Company to his nextlevelism bullshit these days...). I don't even agree that Brostep is Dubstep, stylistically it's an evolution of Electro-House whereas Dubstep is an evolution of UKG/2-step (chronologically it's from Dubstep producer Rusko being a nob and over distorting his basslines but nevermind).

I don't even know why I am going into this so much, I know no one cares.

that sounds nothing like breakbeat hardcore to me. it sounds less like hardcore than breakbreat does by itself.

when i think of bbhc i think of pretty much everything fang does. basically this whole album:
http://soundcloud.com/fang-save/sacd-0015-dd2
i'm curious what genre you would call that? simply hardcore? i'm not saying you're necessarily less correct than i am.

other than that i don't really disagree with anything you said. dnb doesn't really belong under hardcore, but it shares a lot of elements. so it's acceptable to have dnb on a "hardcore" album, or vice versa, imo.

That to me is Drum & Bass, almost all tracks except for one or two. Sound.AVE's own website calls it: Cyber Drum'n Bass (not a genre)/ Rockin' Drum'n Bass (not a genre)/ Neurofunk (lol nothing on this album is Neurofunk)/ Darkstep (as Neurofunk)/ Futurestep (not a genre)/ Breakbeat Hardcore (disagree, will explain why)/ Dubstep (electro-house/Brostep more like).

I think you are getting the definition of Breakbeat Hardcore confused. Breakbeats literally just refers to any type of music which features cut and sampled breaks in any kind of dsicernable rhythm, so Breakcore/Big Beat/D&B/Jungle/Breakbeat Hardcore all fall under the category of Breaks.

Breakbeat Hardcore is the term given to the rave music of 92 in UK. As a genre, it evolved out of Acid House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKbLI8EufNo)) and Detroit/Chicago/NY Techno (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r7MjUDgZ0I).). Both of these probably arose out of the New York and Chicago house and disco scene but never mind about that. What british producers did was to combine the synth patterns of acid house and techno with breakbeats (most noteably the Amen Break) to give rise to what became known as Hardcore and later known Breakbeat Hardcore to differentiate it from European Hardcore. Listen to this track by massive rave artists Altern-8, it actually samples the Techno track linked earlier but notice the inclusion of the Breakbeats (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSg0-dMK5Fk).). The Prodigy's first album 'Experience' was all this kind of stuff as well. And then there's stuff like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-94HI0-3Fj4)) which sort of samples the hoover type sound in Second Phase - Mentasm (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mmGxtylQXU)) and again adds breakbeats.

>> No.10096759

>>10096751

Breakbeat Hardcore was further developed by producers such as Krome & Time, Dave Charlesworth, Bay B Kane, DJ Red Alert & Mike Slammer, Manix/4 Hero, Rufige Kru/Metalheads, Orca, Ed Rush (very early Ed Rush only), Bizzy B (early Bizzy B), Nookie, 2 Bad Mice, Omni Trio and others and it all took off in a big way. It died out around 95 when Jungle became massive and by around 96-98 at the turn of Drum & Bass, it basically no longer existed. That, my friend, is Breakbeat Hardcore. I think you'd be hard pressed to find any other definition of it. I don't want to be confrontational but I am aware that is how I am coming across, so I apologise, just trying to clear up genre etymology.

Well Drum & Bass itself has sub-genres like Liquid Funk, Neurofunk, Darkstep, Techstep, Jump Up, Drumfunk and then some lesser used ones like Skullstep and Drill N Bass and equally retarded sounding shit.

The stuff on that Cubegrams album will fall closer to Liquid Funk than anything else, but I am hesitant to use that term for it since it should really be reserved for more melodic D&B with strings/jazz instruments throughout it, with or without vocals, in my opinion.
