I just use /q/ as a timeline event. I doubt it had anything to do with the fact that /jp/ is what it is now. But it's just sad how much it's changed. It's like people from all over the site are here and posting now, and nobody really cares about the culture or the customs of posting that went around before they were here (not that it's an obligatory thing for you to recognize or anything). In the end, it's all water under the bridge, I guess.

Railgun was a manga and an anime before it was a light novel and it's been established that even anime based off VNs and LNs belong in /a/. Only one that has real trouble is Ran, her tails push her forward too much. Chen and Yukari stay up no problem, sometimes leaning into each other for support.
