Basement dwellers I understand. They cost nothing other than food, and anyone can afford to feed their own face, even if they've been jobless for months.

What I don't get at all is the NEETs I hear about living jobless in some studio apartment getting fed a lifeline of wasted money from their parents. That sort of things seems like it would be prohibitively expensive in any of the first-world countries the NEET problem plagues. Living costs are ridiculously expensive in these places, especially in the cities. That's a hell of a con job to pull over on one's own parents, especially if it's going on for more than two months.
