People just hate FF13 because it breaks all of their FF games stereotypes and does actually interesting stuff instead of rehashing old shit:

-Female characters are the real heroes of the story. Males are like the old female characters: useless, hopeless and always have to be rescued.
-Hyperactive genki girl is not only not irrelevant, she is basically the main character in the game.
-No main female character is romantically involved with a main male character. Not even in subtext.
-No furries
-Lesbian subtext instead of gay subtext
-Nigger isn't a horrible stereotype
-No artificial game extension by means of pointless backtracking.
-No stupid forced minigames
-You can't win battles by grinding or mashing X
