You're asking questions from the wrong direction. Rights aren't hung over our heads like doggie treats that need to be earned. Citizens don't need to justify property ownership; it's the government that needs to rationalize seizure and restriction of it. The case for a ban on "assault weapons" is currently insufficient, meaning that there is no logical reason why I SHOULDN'T be allowed to purchase one. That's all that matters for the time being.
