here were my steps

step 1. learned hiragana using realkana and kana invaders
step 2. learned a bunch of japanese vocabulary using anki, memrise and japaneseclass.jp
step 3. read both of the genki textbooks to learn grammar
step 4. learned sentences using anki deck
step 5. watched all of misa sensei's videos except the ones where she is talking about manga
step6 . currently watching all of kawama sensei's videos


did all these steps while watching anime, jdramas and listening to 48/46 pvs

i am basically between a n4-n3 level of japanese after 2 or 3 years of study. i must have studied the language ineffectually
