N2 is less than a grade schooler's language ability probably.
N2 is good enough to be able to understand basic japanese, and understand everyday conversation with ease.
Can an N2 level person read Harry Potter easily? Maybe. Can a grade schooler read Harry Potter? Yes.
N1 in theory means you're fairly knowledgeable about japanese, but you could pass N1 with only being an anki bot and not being able to actually speak.
N5 isn't even a test, do people actually take that shit? what's the point?
N3 is about at the level where you can gleam everyday conversation and understand lots of it, but will struggle and lose flow of it frequently.
