The /b/ doll threads can get really good. They come and go in spurts. All sorts of ludes and weird dolls get posted. Getting your hands on doll owner pics, like raw stripped down dolls so you can see them at their worst, super valuable pre-purchase. Vendors can provide good customer shots often. So ask them for customer photos. I had to buy almost all my dolls without reviews so I'm happy to help. Doll owners are almost all helpful. Once you find a doll you like post it here and maybe someone has one. They're still rare so you might have to dig around twitter feeds and I've searched "fc2" + "blog" often for dolls (Japanese blogging site). All vendors will send you factory shots which is like the bare bones of factory positioned doll. These are as essential as the customer shots. Then the studio shots tell you how far you can go with costume, poses, and lighting. Watch out for makeup and filters. Great looking artful photos are awesome but ultimately not for purchasing. They do tell you how fare you can take a doll for costuming and that is worth consideration as well. Contrast all three before making a decision. Sometimes it's just not available and you gotta take the chance. Lots of us had to do that. Few of us are unhappy. Very few. Dolls are fun. Insanely fun.
