Armor doesn't have light, medium or heavy properties. The weight determines what "kind" you're carrying. If your equipment is under 15s it's considered light armor, under 35s it's medium armor and higher than 35s is heavy armor. You could run around in plate armor made out of dawn cloth or spirit cloth and it would be considered light armor or you could run around in robes and clothes made out of adamantium and it would be considered heavy armor. It's all about the weight. Same goes for weapons, but with different weight limits of course.
