Finished my first route of this last night (Mahiru's, per route order of a walkthrough I found), and I'm curious about something.

<s>Did Mahiru even exist, as a girl? I'm caught between two scenarios. The first is that she did actually exist when Hitomi was younger, as he went so far as to name that first cat after her. He must have had some degree of affection for that younger girl who wanted to be his bride. At one point I thought that he might have killed the real Mahiru, going by those rather disturbing h-scenes where she took the place of the cat, sticking things up her only for her to get knocked down. He wanted to bully her so much because he liked her, after all.

The second is that she's just a representation of sorts drawn up by the guilt Hitomi felt about that first cat's death. This one is probably much more plausible considering where he is and the nature of those aforementioned h-scenes, not to mention his psyche. Even if she were a lot younger when she may have died (possibly five/six), there's no way her body would have been that small for Hitomi's hands to go around her like that. Towards the route's end when his sister and the nurse were discussing Hitomi's cruelty as a child, they touched upon him harming insects and cats, not killing someone. </s>
