do not get a kindle, theyre locked down garbo and dont work with standard book formats without converting them to amazons meme ones. i'd recommend a kobo. if you like manga the clara hd is good since its internal storage is a microsd card so you can replace it easily i put 128gb in mine. you can also install koreader easily which is much nicer than the stock reader. the clara hd is small tho so idk what a good option is for something bigger. kobos also use an sqlite database for local sign in so you can add an empty account from your pc and dont need to sign into any kobo account stuff like with a kindle
