Doesn't matter, tricking the reader to spend 200 hours getting to know these characters only for the story to say "ANYONE COULD'VE DONE IT NONE OF IT MATTERS WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB" is ridiculous. In Higurashi you will never see Keiichi suddenly hate Satoko or fall madly in love with Ooishi since that's just not who he is, but with Umineko ANYTHING is possible. Battler raped his father and his cousin George? IT COULD HAPPEN IN THE CATBOX IT DOESN'T MATTER THEY'RE JUST PIECES OKAY???

It boils down to this: Higurashi respects the reader and the characters in the story and won't have them do something OOC just for the sake of plot, While Umineko doesn't give a shit and excuses it's awful writing with Meta garbage. If you're looking for a good story with heartfelt moments that respect your time and heart then read Higurashi
