It makes happy. It's all foreign, too, making it more interesting and alluring. A lot of people here are the types who don't feel like they fit into their culture or even world (or so it seems). What's worth devoting a person's time and energy to is really what said persons feel is worth it. A person's own culture can feel just as foreign or maybe moreso than some culture or place they've never interacted with or been to in person. People who don't feel at home in their home aren't going to care about the things that have value or meaning to other people in that home, they'll look elsewhere. It's vicarious exploration of places that could be home. A running joke that "why is this a blue board when none of us have jobs?" is true, because this board (and website) is an alienated NEETs paradise. There's a lot of mental illness around these parts.
