Well then what other punishments would she incorporate? A single punishment can only go so far in terms of effectiveness. Likewise, not making breakfast or lunch could act as a good reminder as to who's keeping you well-fed without necessarily starving you for the whole day. I don't think she'd stop you from trying to make food by yourself, or snatching an apple from the table.
