OP, when I beat Takeda in my first game I had the following strategy: Attack only when Baba Shouen and Masakage aren't there. Sanada and the ninja you can win against (just send Suzume against the latter hoping he tries to assassinate her, and make sure to have a tactician debuff the former). You just have to assassinate or whirlwind shot any other cavalry you see as soon as you see them. The named guys don't seem to come out after a battle.

If you need to block the blitzkrieg on a second game or later, make sure you have 9 foot soldiers who can take multiple hits. You will probably need Ikkyu and 3 foot soldiers to defend him to win against Masakage. Against Baba Shouen your best units (for instance, Kenshin, Omachi, Souun, Natori, and so forth. You won't need all, just two or three really good ones). Against Yoshikage, Suzume (and hope he uses assassinate against her immediately). Against Sanada, your leftovers should be enough as long as you have a tactician left to debuff him and then some warriors to take him out.

In th7, she made the seasons return to normal so the ecosystem doesn't get messed up.
In th8, she brought the moon back to normal, helping to keep the tides from going out of control.
In th9, she kept all sorts of flowers from overrunning the place, which would have harmed the flowers that were normally there (and when the new flowers died out from lack of souls, there'd be nothing left).
In th105, she sets out to stop earthquakes.
In th11, she protects gensokyo from the side effects of nuclear fusion.

Reimu features in most doujins, she's in every game as the main character and her #1 ending is usually considered the 'true' route of each game.

Reimu's character is the centre of a lot of the humour in the series as she represents a unconventional Shrine Maiden (this is where Sanae comes in, a loyal, polite and hard working girl). It's a bit odd that the Japanese seem to appreciate a original take on a miko while everyone here seems to whine about how she's a mean bitch.
