Today is the day of Finnish national epic Kalevala, so I wanted to share this folklore with fellow Komachi fans:
Komachi is based on the Greek ferryman Charon, who ferries dead people over a river to afterlife. Same kind of a ferryman exists in Finnish mythology too. However, it's a woman here that ferries people over the river. This woman is called as "Maiden of Tuoni" (Tuoni being the afterlife world of dead people, Tuonen joki being the name of the river) or in Finnish, "Tuonen tytti", whose main discussion topics relate a lot with death. Tuonen tytti also refuses to ferry alive people to afterlife (as happened in Kalevala), which is similar to Komachi's attitude on seeing alive people at the riverbank.
There's a Finnish rune song about the creation of iron, where Tuonen tytti is in the main lead. In the song, Tytti (or Tuonen tyttö) laid down onto grass to sleep and forgot her chest wide open. Then, milk started flowing out to the grass from, literally, "udders so magnificent, from nipples with no name". And the milk turned into iron. The song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf9I8CIMOFM
