>Yeah that's why good karma=rebirth grants you a more excellent and holy vessel next. This is why even the insects a sage will speak to will return better. An ant can go the way from ant->rat->dog->average person->mindful person->bhikku->arhat->bodhisattva->buddha if they continue to be excellent. Also why everyone is told they should teach others dharma. It benefits you and the student for its own sake, which is why if you chant the Amitabha's nembutsu for salvation instead of its own sake you will see no return. Really nice to see people talking about this.
That's why I put (Pure) in parenthesis. There were many attempts to make a slave morality religion of Buddhism, if only because it is the natural course when trying to implement a religion, and the point of contention between Theravada and Mahayana traditions. Why Vajrayana traditions are often losts to Buddhism. What is metaphor and what isn't.

Some Tibetan traditions make Gods or Immortals of past Buddhas, and that's slave morality. But even the worst Tibetan tradition admits that Buddhas aren't important or essential, and that reincarnations are meaningless, and that's the essence of master morality. Though not always accepted by the peasants praying.
